For the most spectacular views of San Diego: Cabrillo National Monument. It's free this week only. When you come to San Diego, there are three places you should go to see the gorgeous panoramic views of San Diego County: Mount Helix in La Mesa — Mount Helix has a private park with a large cross at the top. Great sunsets because you're far enough inland to actually get sunsets instead of the coastal marine layer. Mount Helix is about 1,370 feet high. Mount Soledad in La Jolla — At 822 feet high, you can see the coastline from Mexico up

cabrillo national monument: Cabrillo National Monument is free through April 24! - 04/18/11 10:32 PM
Cabrillo National Monument is free through April 24! National Park Week started April 16, which means that entrance to Cabrillo National Monument is free through April 24. Cabrillo National Monument (B), located at the tip of Point Loma, offers the best views of San Diego and is not far from your Mission Valley condominium (A): Along with those superlative views of downtown San Diego, you can watch military aircraft, including cool helicopters, fly in and out of the North Island Naval Complex; watch military war ships, aircraft carriers, and even submarines enter and leave San Diego Bay; visit

cabrillo national monument: You have to go here when you come to the NAR Convention in November - 10/31/09 10:14 AM
When you come to San Diego in a couple of weeks for the 2009 NAR Convention, put Cabrillo National Monument on your schedule of things to do. It doesn't matter whether the day is sunny and clear, cloudy and raining, or just some good ol' Los Angeles haze, the views of North Island Navy Base, downtown San Diego, the Silver Strand, the Hotel del Coronado, and Tijuana are unmatched from anywhere else in the area. Yesterday was, perhaps, the most beautiful day at Cabrillo that I've ever seen in the 31 years I've lived here, so I got some great pictures

cabrillo national monument: Visit the Cabrillo National Monument through my pictures - 04/13/09 09:45 AM
Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo is said to be the first European to set foot on the west coast of what is now the United States. It is not known where Cabrillo was born or where he is buried. Although he sailed under the flag of Spain, some historians state that he was Portuguese. On September 28, 1542, Cabrillo's three ships -- San Salvador, La Victoria, and San Miguel -- entered "a closed a very good port," and named the area San Miguel the site of modern San Diego. There is a San Miguel mountain about 15 miles east of downtown San Diego.
