Financial assistance through subsidized home loan programs is available in Chula Vista and both the city and county of San Diego. These specific loans are either "silent second" loans, zero interest loans, or low interst loans.
The caveat is that the homes must be bank-owned properties in communities or neighborhoods with large concentrations of foreclosures. The intent, of course, is to help areas that have been particularly hard hit by the real estate crisis.
More than $17 million in "neighborhood stabilization" funds is available to San Diego County courtesy of the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Customers of the Otay Water District apparently have been so successful at voluntarily conserving water that the District voted recently to stay with a Level 1 drought alert instead of moving to a Level 2 drought alert.
A Level 1 drought alert depends on people voluntarily conserving water, like showering with a buddy instead of alone -- LOL.
A Level 2 drought alert mandates certain restrictions, like not washing the car by hand in the driveway, cutting down on landscape watering, etc.

chula vista: Pets always seem to be the first to suffer in a bad economy - 02/21/09 10:51 PM

Every time I've ever gone to an animal shelter, as I walk in the beautiful entrance I always think that I'd like to volunteer some times there each week.
Then I get to the cages, and it seems the further the cage is from the front entrance, the more deplorable the conditions. 
Thus I resign myself to getting my pets from the animal shelter but sending them a small donation each month, or taking them some old towels, instead of volunteering.
