coronado: San Diego Architecture — Victorian architecture in Coronado - 10/17/10 08:48 PM
Victorian architecture in Coronado It is often said that things start in California and move east across the country — real estate collapse, real estate recovery, etc. However, when it comes to architecture, it's pretty obvious that things started back east and moved west across the country. San Diego doesn't really have an architectural style of its own, certainly nothing like Santa Fe's adobe, or San Francisco's Victorian, or Chicago's prairie school. Instead, San Diego is a conglomeration of lots of styles, more prevalent in some areas than others. For example, if you go to Coronado, you can find just

coronado: Coronado Island: Star Park, the "Wizard of Oz" home, and more! - 01/31/10 07:24 PM
One of the great tourist traps in San Diego County is Coronado Island, although technically it's a peninsula. One of the great little museums to visit in Coronado is the Coronado Historical Association Museum of History and Art at 1100 Orange Avenue. They have three galleries, of which one has rotating exhibits. One of the recent exhibits was about L. Frank Baum (1856-1919), the author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Frank Baum was born in Chittenango, New York, and oftened wintered in the San Diego area, usually in Coronado and La Jolla. He owned a home in Coronado overlooking Star

coronado: Santa Claus spotted leaving Coronado Island on Jaunary 10! - 01/10/10 10:00 PM
Contrary to popular rumor and urban myths, Santa Claus apparently does not return immediately to the North Pole once his Christmas rounds are done. For the second consecutive year, Santa has been spotted on Coronado Island well after Christmas. Today, January 10, 2010, he was seen leaving the Coronado Beach with only two reindeer pulling his sleigh. The sleigh was empty, and it looks like Santa has a pretty good tan. Rumors have it that the other reindeers are staying behind to visit their friends at the San Diego Zoo. ♪♪♫♪♪ If you have a cat, or used to have a

coronado: Marriott's Coronado Island Resort and Spa - 01/10/10 09:37 PM
While I was over on Coronado Island today, I took made an opportunity to go see Marriott's Coronado Island Resort and Spa. As many times as I've visited Coronado, I've never made it a point to go by the Resort even though I've heard great things about it. It's not easy to get to, but it definitely has one of the more beautiful locations over on the Island, and the Resort itself didn't disappoint. In fact, they even have their own little flock of flamingos, beautiful streams and fountains, lots of mallards and seagulls, and the most spectacular views of downtown

coronado: Downtown San Diego from Coronado Island - 01/10/10 08:58 PM
Some of the best views, if not the best views, of downtown San Diego and the San Diego Bay are from Coronado Island. Coronado Island is also home to the Coronado Island Naval Station; the world-famous Hotel del Coronado, said to be the most expensive piece of real estate in the United States, having sold for $384 million back in 2001 or so; and Coronado Beach, which regularly ranks as one of the Top 5 beaches in the United States. Since I was over on the Island holding an open house today, I also took some time to get some pictures
