IAMS REALTY: The new company in town
When the neon lights come on at night, it's always fun to see which companies transform themselves into different companies at night.
Not too far from me, there is a new realty company in town, IAMS REALTY:

I wonder if IAMS REALTY is pet friendly. Of course, during daylight hours, IAMS REALTY is Keller Williams Realty.

I don't know how long the lights have been out, and I always wonder why companies don't fix lights immediately, but this one is a realty office, so I hope they get it … (12 comments)

humor: Time for the weird and wacky (It's October!) - 10/02/11 03:18 PM
Time for the weird and wacky (It's October!)
A friend forwarded me a list of, uh, interesting festivals occurring throughout the country for the next eight weeks. I share it with you just in case you're still looking for something to do.
Festival of the Dead; Salem, Massachusetts. Talk to deceased loved ones via real-life witches. All of October. Wooly Worm Festival; Banner Elk, North Carolina. Spend October 15 & 16 watching caterpillars forecast winter. Fantasy Fest; Key West, Florida. Hosted by XXX thespians Bre Olson and Ron Jeremy (I have no idea who they are, but they must be XXX … (10 comments)

humor: I'm a little selfish.... - 06/14/11 01:40 PM
I'm a little selfish....
One of the problems in today's world is that there doesn't seem to be a family meal anymore. When I was growing up, mom came home around 4:30, dad came home around 5:30, and we usually ate our evening meal between 6:00 and 7:00, all of us, sitting around the dining room table. We were a modest middle-income family. No television, no cell phones, no texting and sexting, just a family eating together and enjoying life. Mom still lives in the house that I grew up in.
Even though I grew up in that environment, it's not … (21 comments)

humor: Watch for spaced-out squatters when previewing vacant homes - 11/07/10 11:27 AM

Watch for spaced-out squatterswhen previewing vacant homes
I'm always conscious about safety whenever I'm out by myself previewing properties.
Today I visited such a home and for some reason I was inclined to open a closet that had sliding doors, something I don't usually do.
I'll look at walk-in closets, but I'm always pretty sure that a closet with sliding, mirrored doors is just a closet.
The property did appear to be vacant since there was no furniture anywhere, but imagine my shock when I opened those mirrored closet doors and found an obviously spaced-out squatter staring back at me:

humor: We have a new cemetery in the neighborhood! - 10/12/10 08:58 AM

We have a new cemetery in the neighborhood!
On my first visit to New Orleans I took a tour of a cemetery. That just didn't sound right when I was touring, but eversince then I tend to notice cemeteries. I don't rememberone in San Bernardino where I grew up, and I know ofonly two here in San Diego. Outside of New Orleans, the only cemetery I visited is the National Cemetery inRiverside since my dad is buried there.
Today, though, I found a new cemetery in the neighborhood.Seems it cropped up almost overnight:

humor: Herewith I release the Sun god into the ActiveRain community - 07/10/10 05:21 AM
On The Border had always been one of my favorite places to eat Mexican food and drink margaritas.
Until late last year.
That was when they discontinued their excellent raspberry margaritas. Their reason was that "no one ordered them." Hmmm. My marketing guru and I ordered four every Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
Since we knew where we ranked with On The Border, we've been visiting different Mexican restaurants throughout the area, and I'll be doing reviews of them in the future.
Today, however, I'll just leave you with this picture of the Sun god that I took at the restaurant we … (14 comments)

humor: "The End," by "The Two Zebras" - 06/27/10 04:22 PM
This is my last post for the week, and considering how tired I am from trying to learn how to do videos, well, I thought some levity might be in order.
First, let's put on a little music.
My marketing guru might say that "It's been a hard day's night." Since I'm not in the mood to argue with him, and he's probably right anyway, how about a great song by The Beatles?

How about something by The Doors?

Or perhaps you would prefer something by R.E.M.?

Whichever you choose, always remember … (13 comments)

humor: What do cats, dogs, and pigs have in common? - 06/19/10 02:21 PM
One of my daily reading books is Peg Silloway's The Cat Lover's Book of Days. If you're a cat lover, and you don't have this book, you're missing out.
One of the best things about The Cat Lover's Book of Days is that it's not like other books of days because there are no years involved. That means that you can read this book over and over again each year. Get your own copy right here.
Meanwhile, the answer to the title question is, US!
Dogs look up to us.

Cats look down on us.

And pigs treat us … (6 comments)

humor: It's nice to just chill in the 22nd craziest city in America - 05/22/10 03:57 PM
Since I'm not having an open house tomorrow due to a day out with some ActiveRain friends, I'm kind of chilling tonight, watching the Celtics blow out the Orlando Magic, writing blog posts, looking at the draw for the French Open tennis championships, and reading some old newspapers.
One of the interesting (i.e., weird) stories in a March 13 newspaper is about a study on craziness. Apparently, how crazy a city's citizens are is determined by the number of psychiatrists per capita; stress level as deermined by a Gallup survey; drinking habits, as determined by data from the Centers for Disease … (12 comments)

humor: Could someone with connections get me an extra day each week? - 05/07/10 10:44 AM
Where do the hours, days, and weeks go?
I've always had a problem spreading my blog posts out over seven days, leaving me with trying to do ten posts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
I'm just not as organized as my marketing guru, even when I try hard. Not really sure if that's good or bad.... ☺
Anyway, when ActiveRain was acting up last week, it was taking me three hours to do what had always been a 20-minute blog post, and I think I got out of the habit of even trying. Well, starting right now, I'm back. I'm going to … (17 comments)

humor: Are you missing Whiskers? - 05/02/10 09:18 AM
Since my listing went into escrow after one open house and just 12 days on the market, I'm back to holding opening houses for other agents.
That means that I'm at my open house right now, and since ActiveRain hasn't been cooperative this past week, I'm hoping to get some ActiveRain blogging in to. Remains to be seen.
My worst open houses have almost always been when the Los Angeles Lakers are on television, and I'm going up against the Lakers and the Utah Jazz this afternoon. Since the NBA playoff schedule is never set in stone with these seven game … (3 comments)

humor: Guy talk. Restricted access. No women allowed. - 04/17/10 02:10 PM
Hey, guys!
I'm sure almost everyone is familiar with the various colleges and universities that self-report recruiting, alumni, and player violations. They even determine their own punishment and recommend that to the NCAA. How cool is that?!!
Well, I think we men need to take that to the next level and self-report our violations to our spouses.
It is time to confess our sins.
Let it all out.
All of those years of wrongdoings, forgetting birthdays and anniversaries, claiming the stores were out of roses and chocolate for Valentine's Day, and on and on and on.

humor: Do you have a "hisrotic home"? A good home inspection might be in order! - 04/10/10 09:18 PM
I've been up late these past few days well past my bedtime.
I'll have more to say on that later today after a good sleep and a couple of other activities.
One of the things that I was researching was historic homes. Here in San Diego County, there are many cities that provide tax incentives for buying a historic home and keeping it historic even when renovating and upgrading.
When I did a Google search on "historic homes," the following returns showed up:

I can't say that I've ever seen a typo in the title of the Google search returns, … (10 comments)

humor: You know you're out in the boondocks when you have to.... - 04/07/10 11:03 PM
Rarely am I left speechless, but it does happen, oh, maybe about once a decade or so.
I remember the first time was when I saw a sign on the outskirts of a small city in Texas that said, "Public Water Supply Approved." I thought that would be a pretty good job: Public Water Supply Taster. Then again, maybe not if the water is bad. Then who would be around to unapprove it, or to taste it next time?
The second time was when I had a Yield sign at a T intersection but the vehicles coming from the other two … (24 comments)

humor: Pictures of the rare Tower tree - 03/14/10 04:55 PM
Over by my open house today I saw a tree across the freeway that looked weird.
I got out our Canon Rebel camera, put the 300mm telephoto lens on it, and took a couple of pictures.
It looked fake, but I have never heard of a fake 50-foot tall tree!
When I got home and showed them to my marketing guru, who is an expert in all things nature, he told me that it's a fairly rare tree throughout the nation:
the Tower Tree (Pinus cellii telephoniensis)

Apparently telephone companies disguise their transmission towers now so that they don't … (22 comments)

humor: How to store and organize your cats - 03/14/10 04:33 PM
My mom and her boyfriend recently had to euthanize their last black cat, a tuxedo named, what else, "Tuxedo."
Tuxedo and his littermate, another black cat named Midnight, were 15 years old. Midnight had to be euthanized late last year.
They are catless at the moment, but we had supper with them yesterday and they announced that they are going to get another cat, "or two, or three, or four.... we'll see what happens."
Maybe that's why they sent me this picture today:

humor: We're just a wee bit different here in California! - 03/03/10 12:22 PM
Pretty much everyone in the world knows that Californians do things a little differently.
Whether that is good or bad is a matter of debate.
Currently the State is trying to reconcile a $20 billion budget deficit.
$20 billion isn't a lot of money if you're talking the United States Federal Government. For what would be the world's eighth largest economy if California were a country, it would seem that $20 billion would be a drop in the bucket. Maybe it would if our State legislators were doing things that would help the State.
Instead, we have the California Senate tackling … (12 comments)

humor: Speechless Sunday: Did I say something wrong? - 02/28/10 03:42 PM
I don't consider myself a very talkative person. I like to listen and then respond as necessary.
The other day I took an early morning walk through the San Diego Zoo, not looking to see any specific exhibit or wildlife, just enjoying the beauty and sounds of the Zoo in the mid morning sun.
I have learned to take a camera with me wherever I go. My marketing guru/husband tells me that you never know when you'll get that once-in-a-lifetime picture that you can sell to CNN for a million dollars.
I wonder if the following picture is it, or did … (8 comments)

humor: Who's on first? - 12/10/09 01:30 AM
I might be revealing my age —
"He's almost 55," says Zoey the Cool Cat.
"No more special kitty treats for you," says Zoey the Cool Cat's owner.
"You might find that your garage door won't open in the morning," Zoey the Cool Cat replies.
— but comedy on television when I was young were reruns of The Abbott & Costello Show.
Arguably their best routine was "Who's On First?", which resulted in them being featured in the Baseball Hall of Fame. An urban myth says that they were inducted into the Hall of Fame, but it truly is an urban … (27 comments)

humor: Chevrolet's new logo? - 11/22/09 02:09 PM
My Clients were wondering why I stopped to take a picture of the front of someone else's vehicle, but when one's marketing guru is from Texas, one tends to notice all things Texas.
I did have fun explaining to my Clients that I was taking a picture not only for my marketing guru, but to also post on my blog at ActiveRain.
So here is my contribution to Speechless Sunday with a few words thrown in for good measure:
