inspiration: Commit to yourself! - 08/25/10 08:52 PM
Commit to yourself! If you want to achieve something, commit to it! Or, as William James said, "To change one's life, start immediately, do it flamboyantly, no exceptions." It is possible to be so committed to something that you know whatever you committed to simply is going to happen. That's the way it is — affirmation — and if you truly are committed, it more than likely will happen. Many people like to play it safe by saying that they are committed but wait for some sort of proof before they actually act on that commitment. If you want to play

inspiration: Does Sean Hayes have the secret to life? - 07/25/10 01:41 AM
In the overall scheme of the things, i.e., the timeline of the universe, each of us is here on Earth for just a few seconds. When I think of it like that, I'm kind of encouraged to make the most of those few universal seconds. I was reading an article about Sean Hayes, the actor who played Jack McFarland on Will & Grace. Since Will & Grace ended in 2006, Hayes has been in movies (The Bucket List), television (Martin and Lewis), formed his own productoin company which produces the new sitcom, Hot in Cleveland, starring Betty White, and stars in

inspiration: Don't want to do the work? Don't be surprised at the results! - 07/20/10 04:34 AM
Don't want to do the work? Don't be surprised at the results! Don't want to have the oil changed? Don't be surprised at the results! Don't want to have the tires rotated? Don't be surprised at the results! Don't want to track your income and expenses? Don't be surprised at the results! Don't want to go to work today? Don't be surprised at the results! Don't want to study? Don't be surprised at the results! Don't want to eat right? Don't be surprised at the results! Don't want to exercise each day? Don't be surprised at the results! Don't want to

inspiration: Speechless Sunday: If you're out of place, just make sure you're bigger than everyone else - 07/04/10 08:53 PM
Courtesy of my marketing guru who got me involved here at ActiveRain, and my husband who bought us a "handy dandy Canon" digital SLR camera, I find myself more and more looking at the things around me. Pictures can not only inspire you, but the mere act of taking pictures seems to be very relaxing. Following is one of my favorite pictures from this last week. I tagged it, "If you're out of place, just make sure you're bigger than everyone else." ♫♪♫♫♪♫ If you're looking for a great real estate agent in San Diego, well, let me Google one for

inspiration: Believe in yourself and make your own dreams come true - 06/29/10 11:47 PM
Beliefs usually can't be proven, which is what makes them so powerful, so powerful that people and countries throughout history have gone to war over their beliefs. That's the main reason why I like to keep my beliefs on a personal level, so that they affect me and only me. I believe in the power of one, the power of me, the power of my mind, the power of my thoughts and my actions. My beliefs are so ingrained in me that they propel me onward and upward, enjoying all that is around me, even those with different beliefs, for their

inspiration: You can have anything you want, but you can't have everything you want - 05/18/10 03:57 PM
I think society has failed its citizens by not educating them about what it means to be happy in today's world. By society, I mean the government, the school system, the churches, moms, dads, grandparents, friends, and business associates. Everyone is to blame. Part of the problem seems to be sheer jealousy about what someone else has. If we can't afford it, then we'll buy it on credit. Surely some time in the future we'll be able to afford it by paying off the credit card. At least that's the plan, until the Joneses buy something bigger and better than what

inspiration: Are you confusing desire with method and behavior? - 04/25/10 08:27 AM
Have you ever bought something that you really wanted only to realize after you bought it that you didn't want it after all? That's because you bought it thinking that it would provide you with what you really want. You confused intention and desire with method and behavior. For example, you might say that you want a new sports car, to which I'll ask, "Why do you want a new sports car?" You could answer in many ways: All my friends have sports cars. My wife doesn't want me to have one. I want to have fun. Let's discount the first

inspiration: Is it time for you to look at things anew? - 04/24/10 05:52 AM
The other day I found a golden field of beautiful flowers. Nearby I also found a field of beautiful royal purple flowers. The yellow flowers are wild daisies. They grow just about anywhere. The purple flowers are sea lavender. They grow just about anywhere. Since it was obvious that the two fields had not been specifically planted that way, I wondered how the plants knew to remain segregated, to remain in their fields, to not go beyond their boundaries. I went beyond the concrete walkway, which was my own boundary, to look for other boundaries. The boundaries were pretty well defined, but

inspiration: Are you living your life backwards? - 04/18/10 07:40 PM
I have no idea who Margaret Young is, but I found a small piece of paper in this pile that I'm going through that has her name on it along with the following quote: "Often people attempt to live their lives backwards; they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want, so they will be happier. "The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want." — Margaret Young

inspiration: The outer can mirror the inner - 04/09/10 05:38 AM
Most tools in life can be used for both outer and inner enhancement. The same commitment that gets you off to church every Sunday can be used to make a million dollars. The same discipline that allows you to make that million dollars can be used to master parasailing, or skiing, or a new language, or just about anything. The techniques that apply to inner enhancement can be adapted successfully to outer enhancement, and vice versa if necessary. Are you happy with your personal life but not your business life? Adapt your personal life techniques to your business. Are you happy

inspiration: It's okay to cheat in life! - 04/02/10 08:29 PM
Oh, if only we all could go back to grade school, middle school, high school, or college where lessons were taught each day from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Once the lessons were learned, and homework done, it was TV time, play time, party time! When one joins the real world, life's lessons can take place at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including major holidays and major sporting events. Our master teachers even give us tests, and how we do on them determines whether we move on to the next lesson or whether we have to

inspiration: Be honest with yourself. - 03/20/10 04:24 AM
There is an ActiveRain member, Lisa Stafford of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, who is in a situation that happens way too often to the self-employed, especially those in service industries, and this post was inspired by her post. I'd also like to thank Al and Peggy Cunningham for pointing me in Lisa's direction. When you finish here, stop by and give Lisa some encouragement and then stop by Al and Peggy and thank them for caring. If you're feeling overwhelmed by all the new technology and social networking sites, or you don't think you're accomplishing enough each day, or your family and friends

inspiration: Win over yourself! - 02/01/10 06:53 AM
The beginning of February means that the world's greatest winter sports athletes will be heading to Vancouver, British Columbia, shortly. Any time Olympics and other championship events come around, I'm reminded of what Jesse Owens said after winning four gold medals at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin under Adolf Hitler: "I wanted no part of politics. And I wasn't in Berlin to compete against any one athlete. The purpose of the Olympics, anyway, was to do your best. As I'd learned long ago from Charles Riley [his high school track coach in Cleveland], the only victory that counts is the one

inspiration: Don't rest on your laurels.... - 01/19/10 10:49 AM
I have so many saved emails that one of the things I've added to my daily schedule for 2010 is to decide what to do with at least one saved email each day. One of the marketing newsletters that I subscribe to had this short but brilliant observation: If you make the phone ring, people will call who want to buy. If you wait for the phone to ring, people will call who want to collect. If you're tops in your market, don't rest on your laurels because other people might have you in their sights. Those other people will be,

inspiration: While alive, live - 12/02/09 11:13 AM
Motivational or inspirational thoughts. Live by what you believe so fully that your life blossoms, or else purge the fear- and guilt-producing beliefs from your life. Feel free to invite misery into your life by believing one thing and doing something else. If you give yourself the name, then play the game. When you believe something that you don't follow with your heart, intellect, and body, it hurts. Life your belief, or let that belief go. If you're not actively involved in getting what you want, you don't really want it. The best cure for the fear of death is to

inspiration: Why are you afraid to die? - 09/20/09 11:35 AM
I freely admit that I'm one of those who would like to have my plug pulled when I'm not longer a contributing member of society. Living in a hospital and being kept alive by machines? Nope. Please pull the plug. Thanks. I'm not even religious. I don't think there is a hereafter or that I'm going to live forever if I worship some fantasy entity based on some far-fetched tales in a book written thousands of years ago. At that time in history, everyone seemed to be fighting with everyone else, and the largest army usually won the war. So the

inspiration: Inspiration in unusual places - 08/10/09 03:19 PM
Before I had to start making a living to pay the bills, I used to spend a great majority of my day reading. One of the first genres I was ever interested in was biographies. Every time I learned about a historical figure, I checked the library to see if there was a biography about him or her. Recently, right here at our very own San Diego Zoo where donor names are plastered on a wall for all to see, are several inspirational quotations from famous people throughout the world. I had never seen the wall before because it's right at

inspiration: Dont' let the sun go down on you.... - 08/04/09 09:29 AM
Recently I took an evening cruise on the Bahia Belle on Mission Bay. Each evening along the coast, the "marine layer" comes ashore. The marine layer is a low-lying layer of clouds, and when they are just right, you can watch them march across the sky while the sun is shining high above them. Those are exactly the conditions I got at the time. If the slide show here doesn't work on your computer, click here to watch it at slide.com.

inspiration: Stand tall.... - 07/22/09 09:09 PM
I've always found it interesting that pruning a tree or a bush causes it to put out a ton more branches than what were just cut off. I guess it's the plant's way of getting back at people for taking part of it away. In some cases, pruning can cause new branches to grow at extraordinary rates, something else that I've never understood. After the hedge in the following picture was pruned, you can see that several new shoots are outgrowing everything else in sight. One way to get a leg up on the competition is to stand tall.
