music: "The End," by "The Two Zebras" - 06/27/10 11:22 PM
This is my last post for the week, and considering how tired I am from trying to learn how to do videos, well, I thought some levity might be in order. First, let's put on a little music. My marketing guru might say that "It's been a hard day's night." Since I'm not in the mood to argue with him, and he's probably right anyway, how about a great song by The Beatles? How about something by The Doors? Or perhaps you would prefer something by R.E.M.? Whichever you choose, always remember

music: The joys of having a cat - 05/27/10 02:05 PM
I grew up in a family of cats, so I'm always only the lookout for things about cats: books, knick-knacks, statues, sayings.... Just about anything related to cats. While my husband and I were out celebrating our sixteenth anniversary yesterday, I found two cute sayings about cats and had the person with the handy dandy Canon Rebel XSi take a picture of them. Since I also play the piano, I like the first one best and now consider Albert Schweitzer my new best friend. ♫♪♫♫♪♫ If you're looking for a great San Diego Realtor, well, let me Google one for

music: Teaching is just like being a Realtor - 01/18/10 10:59 PM
Itshak Perlman is coming to San Diego this coming weekend. More importantly, he's bringing his violin with him, and even more important than that is that he's going to play his violin in a recital open to the public. Perlman is one of my four favorite violints, the others being Joshua Bell, Yehudi Menuhin, and Isaac Stern. Tickets range from $30 to $300, and a certain someone in this household, who grew up playing the violin, was able to get us tickets to go see him play his violin. Perlman is 64 now and spends a lot of time teaching and mentoring young

music: We didn't start the fire! - 11/16/09 11:53 PM
Possibly my all-time favorite rock song is "We Didn't Start the Fire," off of Billy Joel's Storm Front album. The song has an upbeat, catchy rhythm that encourages one to get up and dance, or at least snap your fingers. It mentions various historical events from 1949 to 1989, 1949 being the year Billy Joel was born, and 1989 being the year the album was released. My mom just sent me an email with this cool video using "We Didn't Start the First" music and historical pictures. See how many pictures you recognize, how many events you remember. We Didn't Start

music: Classical music at President Obama's inauguration - 01/24/09 09:09 PM
I didn't get a chance to watch President's inauguration, but I saw in the paper the next day that they had a chamber music group comprised of Yo-Yo Ma (cello), Itzhak Perlman (violin), Anthony McGill (clarinet), and Gabriela Montero (piano) performing "Air and Simple Gifts," by John Williams, a pianist, composer, and conductor. You might not be familiar with John Williams, but I know you're familiar with many of the theme songs and music that he has composed: 1984, 1988, 1996, and 2002 Olympics The Accidental Tourist Black Sunday Born on the Fourth of July Catch Me If You Can (I'm watching

music: My final Rachmaninoff concert - 01/18/09 08:50 PM
For the last year I've been performing with a chamber music group comprised of a pianist (me!), a mezzo-soprano, and a narrator. We had our last of five "Rachmaninoff -- Letters and Notes" concerts today. We were at the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library, a beautiful facility in a beautiful setting: Here's the program and biographies of the performers: My marketing guru was my page turner, so we couldn't get any pictures during the concert, but here's some pictures of the rehearsal immediately before the concert, and the last two pictures are of the

music: Music for the masses via slotMusic - 10/18/08 05:30 PM
Music. First there were live shows. Then music got recorded and issued on 78s. Then 45s and LPs. Then along came reel-to-reel tape decks, eight track tape decks, cassette decks, CDs and, finally, pure digital music downloadable from the Internet. But it's not over yet! Along comes "slotMusic." slotMusic comes on microSD memory cards with a USB doohickey that lets you attach it to your computer. Pretty cool, I think. Initiallyl, slotMusic will be sold on 1 GB microSD cards, so they can hold not only a full "album," but additional content like liner notes, cover art, commentary, and perhaps,

music: Can the Chinese do anything original? - 08/23/08 07:45 PM
I've been a pianist all my life so music stories naturally get my attention. First we found out that the young girl who sang the Chinese national anthem wasn't singing at all. Apparently the girl with the beautiful voice was not pretty enough to be exposed to the world; her face was "not in the national interest." Can anyone say "Nazi"? The latest story is that the country national anthem orchestrations that China is using at the Olympics just might have been composed by one Peter Breiner, whose compositions were used at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. When one listens to the

music: Rain, trains, brains, and rainbows - 08/20/08 08:08 PM
My partner and I have 5 TB of digital music ranging from, well, everything you could possibly imagine. So since he had a bad day at one of his inspections (see An Open Letter to Realtors), I just thought I would rummage through our database of music and see if I could find something to cheer him up (Beatles always helps). I was looking for Rain by The Beatles when it occurred to me to see what other music we have that has rain in the title. We only have all of our music cataloged through 1987 right now (we're working,

music: Don't get fresh with me! - 08/10/08 05:19 AM
I love to list homes where there are pets, especially cats since I have a little DSH ginger tabby named Zoey (Figure 1). However, sometimes there are cat odors that need to be dealt with in order to make the home fresh, and one can't always move all the furniture and have a good flooring professional come in and really clean everything. Figure 1 What I do is make the house fresh while I'm there by putting a group of 3-5 candles in strategic locations. I don't even have to light the candes in order for the wonderful smell to

music: Had a hard week? Think what these cats on music are going through. - 08/08/08 02:37 PM
Cats and music are an important part of my personality, but cats ON music? http://www.middlegeorgianow.com/cats.htm I had an acute spontaneous nasal reflex (ASNR, or drink up the nose) the first time I saw that and every occasionally I have to go find it again to add a little laughter to my day. For those of you who have had a hard week, I hope it will brighten up your day so that you have a great weekend. Be sure to check out my other blog entries. music: Add some music to your open house. - 08/07/08 09:43 PM
You've staged your listing (or at least convinced the sellers to clean it up and put excessive furnishings in storage); advertised it on Localism, Active Rain, and Craigslist; entered it in the MLS; sponsored a broker's caravan, and now it's time for that Open House. Three glorious hours of sitting there in dead silence hoping that people will come by. Try this: Add some music to your open house. Rather than sitting in silence for three hours at an Open House, take a portable CD player (they cost $19.99 now) and some CDs and have them playing. The music will
