It's peacock strutting time at the San Diego Zoo!
The San Diego Zoo has many pea fowl (peacocks and pea hens) which roam the grounds. They are local birds, so they can fly away if they want to. Obviously these birds are smart because they choose not to leave the Zoo. Uh, der. The most flying they do is to and from a tree or rooftop.

The San Diego Zoo seems to be overrun with peacocks lately.
This is the first year that I have seen baby peacocks, and there sure are a lot of them.
Since all the mommy peacocks are taking care of their little baby ones:

According to one of the Zookeepers, the reason why there are not more peacocks than what they have is because at night the great blue herons find the little peacocks and, well, make a meal out of them.

This has been my year to see the strutting peacocks at the San Diego Zoo. I've been going at least once a year since I was about 12, but I had never seen the peacocks in full display. This year I've been to the Zoo three times, and all three times I've been privileged to see peacocks putting on a show.
Last week was just supposed to be a quick one-hour trip to the Zoo to see the new Elephant Odyssey that opened at a cost of $45 million. What recession?
