Not too far from your Mission Valley condo is Lake Murray Park:

There are many walking and biking paths around the lake, as well as picnic tables and barbecue pits, and you can even rent a boat and cruise around the lake doing a little fishing. Or bring your own boat!

We had a threesome at the San Diego Zoo this morning, each of us with our own Canon camera: Eric with a Rebel, me with a Rebel XSi, and Russel with a 550D. Between the three of us we took 647 pictures. One of my pictures is of a one-month-old Koala. I cropped it so you could see the baby better:

Always know where your other half is!
I usually go for at least a 20-minute walk each day, sometimes with my other half, sometimes by myself. Occasionally when I go by myself, I'll come home to find my other half suspiciously missing.
Today I went over to Lake Murray to visit the ducks. When I got back home, I find this picture on my computer:

It's useful to go to the San Diego Zoo at different times of the year and at different times of the day. Occasionally you'll get lucky and see something like this striped hyena:

If any reader didn't know it yet, Russel and I are always taking pictures of Zoey the Cool Cat. Sometimes she gets into positions that just don't look comfortable at all, like this one:


 
She stayed in that position until the little birdies decided to come by and eat, and their chirping on the other side of the window always gets her excited.

See that guy over there? He's taking pictures of us!
A couple of days ago I went to see Butterfly Jungle at the San Diego Zoo's Safari Park. These two ring-tailed lemurs were out sitting on the ground soaking up the sun. As I raised my camera to take a picture, one leaned over to the other and seemed to whisper something. "See that guy over there? He's taking pictures of us!"

They chew funny
While I was standing at the Zoo in front of the camels and llamas, a family with two children were standing next to me. The young son, the oldest of the children, kept commenting about how "they chew funny." I think he was right.

Which Christmas party?
I went for a walk today at a place that I have never been and got some great pictures for a future post in my Out & About San Diego series.
Here is one of the pictures that I took:

 
I took that picture mainly because, although I knew what the tree was (it's a sycamore), I had no idea what this stuff in the tree was. My other half tells me that it is mistletoe. I had no idea that mistletoe was a parasitic plant that grows in trees of all types.

Sometimes I take my daily walk along the San Diego harbor since it's so beautiful down there — Embarcadero, Spanish Landing, Harbor Island, Shelter Island....
With the fantastic sunsets we've been having this year, the sun gleaming on the downtown buildings has been beautiful. Interestingly, in just a one-hour stroll, the colors changed tremendously.
Following are two sets of pictures of the same building, the left one taken at around 4:00 p.m. and the right one taken around 5:00 p.m. No photoshopping involved. Just plain, old-fashioned pictures courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Nature and a Canon Rebel XSi camera.

I'm learning to keep a camera on the seat next to me when I'm driving because one never knows what one might see while stopped at a traffic signal.
Like this:

That was on the rear of a big truck that looked something like a septic tank truck. I have no idea what inedible waste shortening is, but the nozzles were all black and nasty looking. I am glad to know that whatever it is, it is non-hazardous. Any ideas from anyone?

My other half does many things — home inspector, photographer, marketing guru, music guru, gardening guru, etc.), but the one I think I like most is that he likes to cook, which means that I don't have to. He claims that he doesn't watch America's Top Chef, but I think he secretly does. Based on what he made for supper tonight, what do you think:

Over near downtown La Jolla is the Children's Pool, which has one of Southern California's few harbor seal rookeries. It currently is pupping season for the harbor seals, so I went a couple of days ago to see what pups I could find.
This little one was having a splash (pun intended) in the water.

It was a very low tide, so lots of rocks that are normally underwater were exposed, leaving lots of places for the harbor seals to lay out in the cool water and soak up a little sun.

I was out looking at poinsettias and pansies today when I saw something unexpected on one of the flowers, so I took a picture of it:

I don't know if that's a winter butterfly or if he just likes San Diego's moderate climate like we all do, but I thought he was pretty, and an unexpected find for a December day.

I was out previewing condominiums the other day and one of the complexes I was at had a huge cluhouse. Since my Clients hadn't arrived yet, I decided to check it out. Along with a large library, they had a large ballroom with this sign prominently displayed:

I'm not a big fan of anything with thorns (except roses since they smell so good), but there is one cactus that I like because of its beauty and a certain characteristic that it has. Here is a picture of some of them:
