Swimming pools seem like they are indigenous to San Diego real estate, but the current Level II Drought Alert, as well as so many homes in foreclosure, has resulted in an increase in pool demolition permits.
Pools that once served as gathering spots for neighborhood children are going the way of the dodo bird. Home owners are replacing them with putting greens, patios, artificial turf, basketball courts, and drought-tolerant landscaping.

It seems that many people who move to San Diego, or upgrade to a new home, would like a swimming pool. Certainly, having one -- and maintaining it -- is something that everyone should do at least once in their lives.
Unfortunately, it takes time to maintain a pool, time you could spend enjoying it rather than taking care of it.
Add to that the fact that San Diego is under a Level II Drought Alert, and you'll realize at least two things:
