Lions, Tigers & Bears, located in Alpine, California, is a non-profit rescue facility dedicated to providing a safe haven for unwanted and abused exotic cats. It is a "no kill" facility that allows cats in its care to live out their lives with dignity in a caring and safe environment. Their goal is to provide a safe haven to rescued cats and to educate the public about the growing population of abandoned and unwanted exotic animals and where they come from. The Pacific Southwest Railway Museum Association in Campa, California, is seeking volunteers to serve as docents to interpret train rides on Satursdays and Sundays. Campo is about 45 miles east of downtown San Diego. There are many activities during the summer months, including train rides using historic engines and passenger cars, a playground for the children while waiting, and more than eighty major pieces of railroad cars and equipment. volunteer opportunities: ESL volunteer teaching opportunities in Casa de Oro, El Cajon, and Lakeside - 05/02/09 01:41 AM
Volunteers who would like to teach English as a second language can attend tutor training sessions on May 9 and May 16 at the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center,6650 University Avenue, just a block west of La Mesa. Training sessions last from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and take place in Building A. Classes are hosted by the Laubach Literacy Council of San Diego and LEARN, the San Diego County Library Adult Literacy Program.
