Congratulations to the National League Champions for 2011 - The St. Louis Cardinals!! Those of us in St. Louis who are Cardinal fans - The best baseball fans ever - last night was a pretty exciting night. The Cardinals had a job to do in Milwaukee and they did what they had to do. They Won! All season long, the Cardinals have not been leading the National League. In fact, as the season wound down, it appeared that the Cardinals' season was nearly over. Down over 10 1/2 games near the end of August, the fact that the Cardinals are in

st louis: St. Louis cicada update!! - 06/15/11 12:11 AM
We wanted to update you about the cicada activity in St. Louis..... It is significantly improved. We are seeing more and more dead insects on the ground so their total demise is imminent. The noise levels have dropped significantly as well. We attended an outdoor concert tonite and we were afraid that the cicadas would interrupt our enjoyment, but alas, it was cicada free. We should be cicada free until 2015 when the 17 year cicadas emerge. Can't wait.

st louis: It's time for the 13-year Cicadas to go! - 06/09/11 11:27 PM
It's time for the 13-year Cicadas to go! St. Louis has been suffering from the emergence of the 13-year Cicadas for the past 2 weeks. If you are in St. Louis, you can’t miss their presence. The cicada makes a very distinctive, very high-decibel sound. Luckily, after emerging from the ground after 13 years, they don’t stay around for long. They are extremely annoying and you find them everywhere. They are flying through the air, they are flying into you, they are clinging to buildings and trees or laying dead in a heap on the ground. They don’t

st louis: Magnitude 3.9 earthquake hits Sullivan, MO near St. Louis - 06/07/11 10:54 PM
Magnitude 3.9 earthquake hits Sullivan, MO near St. Louis Last night I was awakened around 3:10 AM by a 3.9 magnitude earthquake. It only lasted around 5 seconds or so, but it was enough to wake me up and I am a sound sleeper. At first, with my eyes still closed, I thought Jim was doing Kung Fu in his sleep but I noticed he wasn’t moving and was sleeping soundly. My next thought was an earthquake or I was just dreaming. We woke up and heard that indeed there had been an earthquake last night. Earthquakes are

st louis: Will the St. Louis Cardinals be able to retain Albert Pujols? - 02/16/11 11:11 PM
Today was a watershed day for the St. Louis Cardinals and star first baseman Albert Pujols. 11 AM today was the deadline, set by Albert, for the team to work out contract terms for him to remain a Cardinal at the end of this season or put negotiations on hold until the end of the season. Cardinal fans watched 11 AM come and go without a successfully negotiated contract. There were many reports in the media about possible contract terms being sought by Albert. We have heard reports as high as $30M per year for 10 years

st louis: Increase in bathrooms in the St. Louis MLS? - 11/05/10 02:00 PM
MARIS has instituted a change in the last few days that changes how bathrooms are noted when viewing home listings. The way bathrooms are shown in St Louis MLS may make it appear that the number of baths have increased. Why? 2.5 baths are now shown as 3 baths. If you have a home that has 2 full baths and 2 half baths, it will now be shown as a home with 4 baths. However, behind the total bathroom count is a notation that looks like this: Baths: 3 (2 1) (FH). This means that there are a total of 3 bathrooms in this home with

st louis: Scorching hot... cool off with a swimming pool out back? - 06/20/10 10:35 PM
At 9pm tonight in St Louis its a roasting 87 degrees, but feels like its 95. We are under a heat advisory until tomorrow evening... its definitely a hot one! According to NOAA, it was 97 degrees this afternoon with a heat index of 106. Feel like swimming to cool off? That's about the only way to step outside when its that hot! The questions that come up so often are if I install a pool in my backyard am I going to get my money back? Is it a hinderance to have a pool? Having a pool does knock out

st louis: Most Improved US Housing Markets - 06/14/10 03:07 PM
Congratulations to ST LOUIS for making Yahoo News for the list for "Most Improved US Housing Market" today. Below is the story from Yahoo Real Estate. St Louis is #3 on the list - we were hit kind of hard with layoffs from the Ford plant closing, Anheuser Busch selling to In-Bev and many others and a current 9.5% unemployment rate... but don't let St Louis fool you... we are survivors and strong people! Its taken from the history books from decades of people migrating to St Louis for work from all directions. There are signs of recovery and our unemployment

st louis: The economy, the ocean liner, real estate sales and you - 06/04/10 10:12 PM
Curious if the economy is on its way up? Its like the massive ocean liner trying to turn in the middle of the Pacific… its turning, but so slowly you can’t always see the results… it will get there, slowly but surely. It would be scary to see the economy bounce back immediately like nothing happened. That ocean liner will finally get turned in the right direction. How is St Louis real estate faring compared to last year? According to STLToday.com, home prices fell 2.3% this spring, BUT that’s still well ahead of where we sat this time last

st louis: Turn old shoes into drinking water - 04/28/10 04:08 PM
Local St Louis man has found his calling in collecting used shoes. Not your typical calling, you might think, but George Hutchings turns used shoes into drinking water. Over the last 2 years, people in America have donated over 370,000 pairs of shoes, then he sells these shoes for $.35 a pound. The shoes are provided to people in South America and India. The money collected is used to purchase the well drilling rigs, water filtrations systems and other supplies to bring clean, fresh water to those in need. They have collected shoes from churches, schools and organizations that hold shoe

st louis: The end of spring break is torture! - 04/03/09 09:51 AM
Late last night, we returned from a trip out of town for spring break. Actually, we went to Florida to visit my dad but got caught up in all the spring break madness at the airport, restaurants, the beach... everywhere!! Anyway, our routine flight back to St. Louis was delayed 2 hours due to mechanical difficulty in St. Louis where the plane originated. The only good thing about the delay was being able to get caught up on two contracts that we were working and getting to answer about 40 emails and voicemails. Getting away for a week is wonderful which we
