It all started in 1973 with one phone call. - 05/27/10 02:14 PM
If you missed 60 minutes last Sunday night, you missed a great technology story.  Not so much technology for the future, although that was part of it.  No, most of the story was about technology of the past.  Morley Safer spent some time with Marty Cooper, the inventor of the cell phone.  I don't want to rehash the story for you, but I thought it was incredibly interesting and embedded the story here for you see.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.  Oh, and by the way, the inventor of the cell phone carries a Droid.

What's FourSquare and how does it help my business (for free) - 05/23/10 05:20 PM

Okay, so I hear about all this social media stuff.  How do I know what to sign up for and what not to sign up for?  Here's my answer.  Sign up for it all and see how it might work for you.  I signed up for FourSquare, which I heard on ARU (Active Rain Universtiy) last week.  I had no idea what it was, and after I heard about it I still wasn't sure I wanted to play.
Here's what FourSquare is, and how it might enhance your business (for free). FourSquare is a game where, using the GPS in your smart phone, you "check … (6 comments)

Photo of the day, a Wine Country Fixer - 05/21/10 07:23 PM

This home is actually the Ledson Winery on Hwy 12 in Kenwood.  It's not for sale so don't call me, but it does do wine tasting.  If your in the area, it's worth stopping by.  Their wine won some awards this year at the County Fair.
For more information on the Wine Country or for a list of things to do contact me or visit my web site.

1 - 2 referrals a week - 05/20/10 01:44 PM

I was contacted through ActiveRain by a writer who saw that I was the featured blogger for Sonoma County.  She wanted me to make a few comments for an article she was writing on what type of on-line marketing I do, and how effective it is.  I wrote more than a few  comments then thought, "Hell, this could be a blog post" so here it is:
I've been a real estate agent since 2003 and mostly advertised in the local newspaper & Homes and Land Magazine.  The newspaper was about $400 a month for classified and open house ads, and Homes … (57 comments)

Free ad for yourself - 05/18/10 01:06 PM
I saw this freebie on Peggy and Al's blog.  It looked interesting, so I looked into it and found it quite appealing.  I made a google/YouTube commercial for myself in about 15 minutes with no help.  It's all self explanatory.  When I was done, I watched it about 10 times, and sent it to everybody I knew.  I've embedded it into my web page.  Check it out here,

So here's what you do.  Go to: www.youtube.com/user/SearchStories  and then follow the 3 simple steps.
1) type in your 6 search keywords.  Notice that there is a window at the bottom of your screen that will … (8 comments)

Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery - 05/13/10 01:26 AM

During the 19th century the business of Proprietary Medicines thrived.  With little to no federal regulation, just about anybody could call themselves a "doctor".  There were hundreds manufacturer's of elixirs, blood purifiers, medicinals salves, and balms that cured every ailment under the sun.
These medicines frequently bore the name of the inventor, fostering a sense of legitimacy, and reliability.  Having a bottle in your cabinet was like "have a doctor in the house".  Most claimed to contain rare herbs, or roots from the Middle East or Orient, but usually only contained alcohol, or if your were lucky, an opium product.
So without T.V. or radio, … (10 comments)

Santa Rosa's name - 05/11/10 06:48 PM
There is a legend which is supported by a substantial amount of circumstantial fact, that in 1829, a Padre from a mission in San Rafael (Mission San Rafael Archangel) had written a horse up into Sonoma County looking for native Americans to convert.  He was riding along the banks of a creek when he was attacked by a group of local indians.  He fled the attacks, stopping briefly to baptize (then capture) a young indian woman whom he'd came upon alongthe creek.  This event took place on the feast day of Saint Rose of Lima, so he named the girl (and creek) Santa Rosa

Faces of the Wine Country - 05/06/10 06:01 PM
Last year American Express ran an ad showing everyday scenes that appeared to display human faces.  Now as I drive around the Wine Country I'll yell out at my wife "Stop the car"  and I'll jump out with my camera and take a picture of something that appears to have a face in it.  Okay...  so some need a little interpretation.  Work with me here.

Forestville, CA - 05/05/10 07:22 PM
Unlike Sonoma County towns of Glen Ellen and Kenwood, I would not call Forestville, CA a tourist destination.  It is a secret little treasure for those of us who live in the Wine Country and for several thousand people who have vacation homes here.

Located in west Sonoma County, Forestville sits on the boarder of the Russian River among century old Redwood Trees and mature oaks.  It's about a 15 miles east of Santa Rosa.  The easiest way to get there is US 101 then heading west on River Road which follows the Russian River all the way to the coast.  … (2 comments)
