8000: WE'RE ALL STILL WAITING....for the IRS to publish a new Form 5405 for claiming the $8000 or $6500 tax credits - 01/12/10 02:42 PM
If you've looked on line lately to see if the Internal Revenue Service has gotten around to publishing a new Form 5405 so your clients can file for their First Time or Move - On Home-buyer Tax Credits for purchases that closed after November 6 , 2009, you know they haven't.
It you go there you'll STILL see this notice:

8000: The latest word on the TWIN TAX CREDITS from the Internal Revenue Service. - 11/30/09 11:43 AM

If you read my post from the week prior to Thanksgiving, you have no need to read … (4 comments)

8000: Is this such an extra-ordinary time that the government should be offering - and extending - a tax credit for "first-time" buyers? - 10/08/09 01:21 PM
Is the tax credit necessary?
We might appropriately ask:
Is this an extraordinary time?
We surely would not want such a credit to be ordinary.
Well:
This is an extra-ordinary time.

It is the first time home price have fallen so severely in a generation.
To illustrate that, I'm going to reproduce here, one more time, the graph of the Portland, OR home prices over the last 22 years - as reported by the Case-Shiller Index (as reported by Standard and Poors and the Wall Street Journal)  Your metro area may vary.  (Only 20 cities are reported.  Eighteen of the … (39 comments)

8000: The Debate over Expansion vrs. Extension of the $8000 Tax Credit is Over -- Well, almost over. - 09/21/09 07:08 PM
There's been lots of discussion on ActiveRAIN over the last few weeks on the issue of extending and/or expanding the federal $8000 tax credit for "first-time" home buyers.
Now, most of that debate appears to be over.  The direction Congress may go is quite clear.  They will extend the current credit for six months -- or they will do nothing. Many ActiveRainers have opposed the whole idea of the credit and any continuation of it.   Many have wished for an expansion of the credit:  either an increase to $15,000 and/or an expansion of the credit to enable all buyers in … (10 comments)
