the Case-Shiller Index (as reported by Standard and Poors and the Wall Street Journal) Where have home prices been over the years in Portland, OR? What does the Case-Shiller Index show us about the long-term trend in prices for homes for sale in Oregon's largest metro area? How do the increases in Portland's score -- recently reported for May and June, 2009 on this important indicator of home value compare to the city's history since the creation of the Index in 1987? Well, here is the chart:
Remember, the data behind the index began being (9 comments)
In recent months, we've noticed favorable market factors at the lower end of the price/size range for homes for sale in Eugene, Springfield and Lane County, OR. We've read about declining inventories and stabilizing home prices in many parts of the country -- as evidenced by information posted on the Active Rain real estate network. The first reliable, positive national numbers appeared a month ago when the Case-Shiller Index (as reported by Standard and Poors and the Wall Street Journal) for May showed that Index's first month-on-month increases in nearly three years. Now, for the Index for the month (5 comments)
(Sadists, I knew you'd keep reading!) Sometimes, it seems like getting points on AR is getting a little too easy...even to those of us who've been on the network for a short time. (Old-time RAINers may really think so.) You can now get 100 points per day just for logging on...or staying on... AR. (Counting points instead of sheep as you sleep.) You can get 10 points for (17 comments)

This is not exactly in my neighborhood. In fact it's just over a far hill. Call it a Sisters city. And Bi-Mart is not what I'd call a big-box store...just a neighborhood business...that is employee-owned.
Well, some folks said it would never happen (and some Sisters purists wish it never had), but the town's first discount retailer opened its doors today. And judging by the hefty crowds at the new Bi-Mart, plenty of folks in Central Oregon couldn't wait to see this new addition for themselves. Even before Ray's Food Place moved into its new location next-door last November, (6 comments)
Question: What do you do when you learn your only grandson thinks it's been a while since you and he have done something "alone together" ? Answer: You start thinking about doing something fun. When grandma is the one reporting this grandfatherly difficiency, you really get right on it. You cast an eye around your memory/inventory of great things seven-year-olds would love doing in your town. High on that list should be Miniature Golf If you live in Eugene-Springfield-Lane County, Oregon you should know that here thinking about miniature golf means going to: Camp Putt's 36 holes are (1 comments)
Homes fom 1600 to 1800 square feet are HOT! Homes from 1200 to 1600 square feet are selling well. Homes under 1000 square feet are NOT. Homes over 2200 square feet have an aggregate available inventory of 36 months or three full (0 comments)
Kelly Tran and I have two things in common: we both left Da Nang, Vietnam a long time ago... and we both love her authentic Vietnam Restaurant in Eugene, Oregon. I left that city, then a United States military stronghold in the Republic of Vietnam, in early 1969, when the US Army's First Signal Brigade transferred me (from the Da Nang Signal Battalion to a higher headquarters in Saigon) for the remainder of my tour during America's long, unfortunate war in Southeast Asia. In 1991, Kelly left Da Nang, her home city, to seek new life and fortune in America. (5 comments)

Here is my first attempt at a slide show on Active Rain and my outside blogs. It's short. You will need patience. You have to look very closely. You really had to be there...on July 4, 2009. But since you were not....here's the best my telephoto and I can do for you. And so: actionagents.net (in association with slide.com) PRESENTS These pictures have been credited to Hood River, OR but in truth they were taken from a rock on the Columbia River's north shore...just west of Bingen, WA. The men (and women?) shown here are all up in the air. They may not know where I spent my Fourth. So they are not up in the air on that. But they all know where they spent the Fourth: Pulled along the surface of a wind-swept river at high speed and sometimes...if they work it right...up in the air on a kiteboard. It looks hard. And marvelous. Better than skate boarding. Better than snow boarding. Better than sand boarding. Better than a man flying a kite:
