Time Management - 09/30/09 08:53 AM
Lately I have been researching the subject of time management. I have read a lot of books and articles on the subject which frankly has been a waste of time. That’s because there are 25 or so principles of time management that really matter and all the books and articles say the same thing over and over in different ways. One of the most important principles of time management is training yourself to distinguish between the pressing task and the important task. Much of our day is consumed with the pressing when in fact it should be consumed with the important. In his … (2 comments)

Responsibility - 09/22/09 09:03 AM
Last week I had breakfast with an attorney friend of mine. He was furious and he wanted to talk. A client that he had represented for many years had recently hired another law firm in the place of my friend’s. When I asked for an explanation, he believed it was because he had not returned the ex-client’s phone calls quite as quickly as his ex-client had expected.

I actually know the man he is referring to and he is right … the guy … (2 comments)

Real Estate Mistakes - 09/14/09 08:49 AM
No real estate professional or entrepreneur can go through a career without tons of mistakes.  I have made more than my share. For reasons I have wondered about in hindsight, I have purchased properties which turned into dogs quickly after purchase.  What was I thinking?  Well at the time of purchase I was making certain assumptions that turned out to be wrong.  Sometimes the assumptions were stupid judgments on my part.  Sometimes the assumptions were good ones that turned bad when circumstances (beyond my control) changed.

Clutter - 09/08/09 11:36 AM
This past week I read a book titled The Power of Less by Leo Babauta.
Mr. Babauta lives in Guam and writes a popular blog titled ZenHabits.
Five years ago he was an out-of-shape smoker. Today he runs marathons. Five years ago he was in debt. Today he is debt-free and has a successful website with more than a million unique visitors a month. Five years ago he spent too little time with his (6) children. Today, they get his time before anything else.
His message?
Simplify your life. Expend your time only as it will support your objectives. Create limits. … (3 comments)

A Waltz into Uncharted Minefields Where Angels Fear to Dance - 09/01/09 03:24 PM
Two weeks ago I wrote about Richard Branson and his act of “sheer absurdity” when he started a magazine without any capital or experience. As Branson noted, he was just too young to know better. I got so many positive responses to that post that I decided to do a bit more homework on the topic of “analysis paralysis” – the state of over-thinking a decision to the point of gridlock.
Just for fun I tried to find a book by another British entrepreneur – to see if I could find any similarities with Branson’s story. So I picked up the … (0 comments)
