 RevoluSun and Sunetric, both companies in Hawaii's residential photovoltaic market, have just partnered with SunRun, which provides financing on photovoltaic systems nationwide.
What does this mean? Homeowners on Maui won't have to pay upfront to have PV systems installed, or if they pay anything, it will only be a small amount. Instead, you will have the option of entering into a 20-year contract with a locked-in monthly rate at the same cost as Hawaiian Electric Co. electricity, or at a cheaper rate. Interested in furthering your education? The University of Hawaii Center here on Maui has drop-in hours so you can stop by and learn about the upcoming bachelors and masters programs from UH.
If you can come by on September 23rd between 5-7pm at Room 222 in the Laulima Building, you will have the opportunity to meet with a UH Center representative one-on-one. Some of the things you can get information on include financial aid and upcoming degree programs starting in January.

Maui Community Meetings for Next Year's Budget - 10/13/10 02:35 PM
For those of you who are interested in budget planning for Maui County's next fiscal year, Mayor Charmaine Tavares's upcoming community meetings should be of interest to you.
Throughout this month, there will be meetings to give the public a chance to provide testimony on the proposed budget for 2010-2012. In fact, upcountry and downtown areas have already had theirs. But Paia/Haiku's meeting will be on the 21st at 6pm at the Paia Community Center.

Hawaii Wins Race to The Top and Grant Money - 10/12/10 04:00 PM
The United States Department of Education's Race to the Top program included $4.35 billion in funding for states that applied with progressive educational reform ideas to improve the educational system. Along with the District of Columbia, nine states won a portion of this funding, and Hawaii is one of them!
The announcement of the winners was made on Tuesday morning by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. They are the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, and Rhode Island.

Maui Stream Water Restoration - 10/06/10 02:08 PM
Maui's Waihee River is now flowing again as the result of an order from the Commission on Water Resource Management that required Wailuku Water Co. to restore 12.5 million gallons per day to two of the four streams that comprise Na Wai Eha.
For many years, Wailuku Water Co. has diverted the stream for users like Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co. The restoration of water to these streams is definitely expected to improve the environmental health of the areas affected by the streams.

Hotel Occupancy High for Maui and the State - 10/05/10 02:07 PM
Hotel occupancy was excellent for Hawaii last week, according to Hospitality Advisor's weekly hotel report. What a breath of fresh air for the economy! Based on the state's average, more than four out of five hotel rooms were full at an occupancy rate of 80.7. That's a 5.3 percent increase compared to the same week last year. The best part is, occupancy on all the major islands was up.
