Minneapolis MN Homes The buzz word in Real Estate this year is “Strategic Default” Its becoming more clear that financially capable homeowners are walking away from their mortgages due to the massive losses in equity. Rather than liquidate other investments or attempt to do a Short Sale many home owners with significant assets are opting for a more calculated financial decision.
Rather than fight until the bitter end and wait out the market for an unknown amount of time to recover equity, homeowners who choose to default on purpose simply stop making payments and walk away.

Houses for sale in the Twin Cities metro are are at a 7.1 month supply in July. This figure represents the amount of months it would take to sell through all the existing houses on the market assuming no further homes were listed. A balanced market tends to be in the 5 month range. Based on that we are still in a buyers market. The months supply is slightly better that last year (7.3 months for 2009) but significantly better than 2008 which was at 10.6 months.
