It's no big secret that consumers don't go out of their way to trust us Realtors. In fact most reports that I have read concerning consumer confidence rank us between attorneys and used car salesmen. Well, despite their own struggles with public perception, I know attorneys and used car salesmen that I like and trust. As far as our issues are concerned, maybe it's time blame is placed where it belongs. It's our fault. No, it's not the fault of every Realtor that Realtors have a bad reputation where the public is concerned, but it is the fault of Realtors that (12 comments)

So You Want to Make More Sales....It's Not a Secret Recipe - 01/28/10 02:05 PM
I talk to a lot of agents and salespeople in general who are a little more than depressed about the current market. It's understandable as frankly, times are hard for a lot of folks. But there are some tried a true methods that will bring you success in virtually any market and most of them are common sense. 10 - Make the call - I know how hard it can be sometimes to pick up that 20 pound phone and make the call. The last thing you want to hear is another no, but you have to reach out to people (136 comments)
How Often do You Use a Drive Thru - 01/27/10 02:10 PM
One thing is for certain today, people like convenience. People love the advancements in technology that allow them to do their shopping from their living room, and run through the drive thru to pick up dinner. It makes things easier for many people, and of course there is our favorite thing, convenience. But real estate is and always has been a people business. In the end it is people that you are here to help. People buy homes and sell houses and it's their best interests that you are here to protect. And since you are in a people business, and (65 comments)
Remember the Price is Right? - 01/26/10 01:56 PM
My Grandfather watches the Price is Right all the time. It's been one of his favorite shows for as long as I can remember and I had to endure it many times as a child. There was one particular game that was played by contestants that comes to mind when I think about real estate. Remember the game where there was a row of products and the contestant had to pick the right price for each product and if they got it wrong they lost? Well guess what, that says a lot about pricing a home for sale. You have to (12 comments)
Nothing in this life lasts forever, not agony or opportunity. There are a lot of people out there today who are in agony due to the current market, but there are also a lot of people out there who have an awesome opportunity as well. No down turn in the economy, including the Great Depression, has lasted forever. So the good news is that at some point, those who suffer today will find relief. The flip side to that coin is that those who balk on the opportunity of today will miss out on their chance to take advantage of (23 comments)
I'll Let You in on a Big Secret - 01/20/10 11:10 AM
I believe it's time that someone shares with you a huge secret that seems to be lost on a lot of people. It may very well seem like a simple solution to a lot of problems of today, but I can assure you that it's an often overlooked epiphany. It's something that I can credit my Mother for sharing with me a long time ago and it has served me well over the years. It's a secret that if more people took the bull by the horns and took to heart, might make their economic standing a little better. I know (21 comments)
Believe it or not, the title is true. While there are many things that you can do in this business that requires aggressive effort, there are things you can do that could be considered a more passive form of marketing. You just have to think a little and come up with something different. Take for example the extra curricular activities of your children and their school. If your child plays sports at their school, then chances are you attend the games and there are other parents that attend them as well. Of course, conventional wisdom tells you to walk around, (90 comments)

I remember the day I took the picture to the left. Some friends grabbed my camera and they were excitedly flipping through the pictures I had taken to see what treasures I had captured on our trip to the mountains. Well, when they came across this one in particular, they were very impressed. In fact out of all the scenes that I had captured thus far, this one was by far their favorite. As they put it, it just seemed to be perfect and the scene was beautiful. In truth it is a beautiful scene. I couldn't help but (6 comments)
When it comes to advertising, there are always consistencies such as claiming your product or service to be the best around. I am used to to seeing commercials and advertisements that do just that, claim to be the best at what ever it is that the advertising party does. The main focus should remain on your product. Another thing that I am used to seeing are knock down, drag out, mud slinging political campaigns between two or more politicians running for the same office. This has been going on for as long as I can remember and I doubt that (5 comments)

How's the Market - A Prospecting Opportunity for Realtors - 01/03/10 01:54 PM
We both know that you get the question all the time from anyone who finds out you're involved in real estate. Curious people who want to know what's happening around them and what's going on in their local market. I must get the question at least once a day by anyone who knows what I do or anyone who finds out. Typically it's just an innocent way to strike up a conversation and in my eyes that's always a welcome thing. The more people you talk to the better and the more opportunities you will get. But are you taking full (81 comments)
How's the Real Estate Market in Columbia, SC - For Consumers - 01/03/10 01:32 PM
I get the question a lot, in fact I'm sure anyone in real estate does. It's often a simple curiosity on the part of the individual asking. But to answer the question honestly, we have to get to the true question. Every market is different and within each market there are sub-levels. By this I mean, there is a real estate market for renting, buying, selling, and investing. And in order to answer a seemingly simple question, I need to know which market we are talking about. I will attempt to cover the state of each one now. Renting in Columbia, (2 comments)
