advice: It's Not About You - 12/06/11 02:18 PM

One of the most difficult hurdles I have seen agents in this business get over is themselves. That's right, I am talking to you. It's not an easy thing to do, I will be the first to admit. But at some point, you are going to have to get over yourself in order to have any success at all and that's regardless of the market.
Now give me a moment to explain. I'm not just talking about your ego, Lord knows there are times when my head will fill a room too. You also have to get over … (49 comments)

advice: Not Everything is What it Seems to Be - 01/10/10 07:23 PM

I remember the day I took the picture to the left. Some friends grabbed my camera and they were excitedly flipping through the pictures I had taken to see what treasures I had captured on our trip to the mountains.
Well, when they came across this one in particular, they were very impressed. In fact out of all the scenes that I had captured thus far, this one was by far their favorite. As they put it, it just seemed to be perfect and the scene was beautiful. In truth it is a beautiful scene.
 I couldn't help but … (6 comments)

advice: People Are Creatures Of Habit - 06/08/09 09:30 AM
This is an old cliche that will always ring true, and I myself am really no different. Though I try my best not to get stuck in a rut, there are some things that I just can't help but do out of habit alone. Most people are the exact same way. They get into something of a routine and they go with that flow until something comes along to disrupt that routine.
Take for example a BBQ restaurant that is located not far from where I live. When I first opened it was the only BBQ buffet located in the small … (23 comments)

advice: If The Only Thing That Hasn't Changed is You, Then You Have a Problem - 04/10/09 03:56 PM
Take a good long look at the world around you and then think back to what it was 10 years ago. There are probably very few things if any, that time has not touched in one way or another. Change is an inevitable force that can not and will not be wished away by an effort to remain the same, and in the end why would you? Adaptation and the ability to evolve as a person or a business is crucial to survival in both life and business.
I completely understand the desire to complain about and fight a change that … (20 comments)

advice: A Little Patience Goes a Long Way - 04/09/09 08:49 AM
A little Patience can certainly go a long way in this life. It doesn't even take a lot anymore, just a little can truly set you apart from those around you. The fact of the matter is that we live in a society that expects immediate results, whether they are likely or not. We want instant gratification, even when that is an absurd notion. We want instant connection, even if no one is available and we will move on if we don't make that connection right off the bat.
For those of us that have the ability cultivate and have a … (23 comments)

advice: That's a Nice Sign in the Yard...Have Thought of Marketing the Property - 02/17/09 01:10 PM
The fact of the matter is that there are a lot of Realtors out there that are all too comfortable with listing a property on the MLS, throwing a sign in the yard, and just waiting around. Don't kid yourself, that is not how it works, and there is lot more involved than that. Maybe when the market is ultra hot, you can get away with it due to the overwhelming interest in the market and the mass of buyers beating down the door. However, in this day and age, that will get you two things, an expired listing and an … (37 comments)

advice: Cornering the dynamite Market. - 01/02/08 11:46 AM
You know over the course of time I have had several deals blow up in my face. Things go wrong at the last minute and that's just the way it is sometimes. There's nothing we can do about it but be prepared for the worst and hope for the best.
I have a couple that I have worked with for the past two months. They are young eager and ready to purchase their first home. Besides all of that they are very friendly and I like them. Not enough however to let them write a contract on one of my listings without … (2 comments)
