blythewood sc real estate: When Will We Accept That Knowing a Ton About History May Not Help Us in the Present - 12/17/09 01:25 PM
I hear a lot and read a lot from "experts" who constantly make determinations about the market of today based on their experience from the past. Traditionally, making predictions based on the past is a good way to gauge what may happen. But you better take notice of the key word in that last sentence "what MAY happen". There are no guarantees and no one can truly predict the future. That's why you've never seen a news report that reads "psychic wins lottery." In times like these, with all due respect, all bets are off and there's really no one that

blythewood sc real estate: Another Mortgage Crisis on the Way - 07/14/09 01:02 PM
Many of us have seen an increase in traffic from first time home buyers looking to cash in on the $8,000 tax credit. As time draws closer and closer for the credit to slip back into the abyss, we now have rumors of more credits, extending the current credit, and we have first time home buyers in a race to pick up their new home. This is of course an effort not to miss out on the tax credit, which at this time, will expire December 1st of this year. So, what about the buyers who are in that race to

blythewood sc real estate: Is Active Rain Making a Run at Your Market - 07/01/09 11:33 AM
Above are the results of a Goolge search using the keyword Columbia, SC Real estate. Notice that Active Rain has now leaped into the #2 position. For the past week or so AR has been holding firm at #3 behind realestate.yahoo.com and russellandjeffcoat.com. When searched today AR had moved up one more spot. When I first started here on AR, in a search for Columbia, SC real estate, you could barely find Active Rain in the results. Now that I have been here for about a year and a half, both Active Rain and Localism.com have climbed their way up

blythewood sc real estate: Your Clients Are What They Eat - 06/29/09 01:13 PM
Have you ever heard the statement that people feed off of one another when it comes to emotions? Well, guess what, it's true. And there will never be a time when that statement is more true than when people are looking to you for guidance. In this business it is our job to protect and guide our clients through the task of buying a home or selling their current house. So, they will feed off of the emotions that we display when we deal with them throughout the process. This is why confidence is so important and why honesty is

blythewood sc real estate: Will Tax Credit Rumors Put Buyers Back on the Fence - 06/25/09 03:45 PM
Lately there have been a lot of rumors floating around about what will come of the tax credit for first time home buyers. Will it be extended? Will it be expanded to include all those that buy a home and not just first time home buyers? The truth is that at this point none of us know for sure. But what is the possible backlash of all the rumors that the $8,000 first time home buyer tax credit will be extended or expanded? Isn't it possible that some buyers who would have bought a home will now sit back down on

blythewood sc real estate: I'm a Realtor NOT a Pit Bull. It's Not Likely I Will Bite You - 06/23/09 03:33 PM
I do a lot of open houses and I do them to gain attention to my listings and myself. You never know what you will get when you open a door to the public, it could be a great thing or a complete waste of time, you never know what you're going to get. My favorite thing at any open house is the visitor that hates me the second they walk through the door. It's open to the public, but have to understand that in most cases it's still a home, and the owners have hired me in an attempt to

blythewood sc real estate: The Witch Hunt Continues - 06/11/09 11:37 AM
All my life I have been a strong supporter of placing blame where it belongs. Find the guilty and punish them for their wrong doings and their inconsiderate actions toward society. But at what point does the chase for the guilty become the search for a scapegoat? At what point does it truly become a witch hunt? We all know how bad the economy has been and crunch of the economic crisis has been felt by far too many. But at what point is it counterproductive to spend valuable time and energy in search of a place to point our finger and

blythewood sc real estate: The Five W's of Buying a New Home - 06/10/09 02:43 PM
The five W's are still important in making decisions. They simplify the process and make a direct connection to what you need and want to accomplish and how you want to do so. It may not be the most advanced way to think things over in this world of technology, but it still works. Let's say for example that you are planning on buying a new home, then pull out a pen and paper and sit down. Then think of the five W's 1- Who will be living in the home. Sit there and think about what you really need out

blythewood sc real estate: People Are Creatures Of Habit - 06/08/09 09:30 AM
This is an old cliche that will always ring true, and I myself am really no different. Though I try my best not to get stuck in a rut, there are some things that I just can't help but do out of habit alone. Most people are the exact same way. They get into something of a routine and they go with that flow until something comes along to disrupt that routine. Take for example a BBQ restaurant that is located not far from where I live. When I first opened it was the only BBQ buffet located in the small

blythewood sc real estate: You Must Accept What You Cannot Change - 06/06/09 02:04 PM
This is a phrase I have heard repeatedly throughout my life and at various points of my existence I used to agree with it. I thought that there was no point in fighting what was inevitable, and I still believe this is true. No matter how hard we fight it, some things are simply destined to be and we will never change it regardless of how hard we fight and scream. Certain aspects of this life are completely out of our hands and there is no need to spit against the wind. However, lately I have come to believe that

blythewood sc real estate: Can the Internet Really Replace Realtors? - 06/04/09 09:31 AM
There's a lot of buyers and sellers these days that do their research online. It's hard to say that I blame them, in fact, I think they should do just that. No matter what you intend to do research on, there is an abundance of information right at your fingertips and all you need is an Internet connection and the ability to type in Google. From there it's simply a matter of making a search and sifting through the results to find the best tips, advice, and information to aid you in the process of achieving your goal. These days with

blythewood sc real estate: Screw Your Advice!! - 06/04/09 08:36 AM
I'm sure somewhere down the line we have all felt like using this statement from time to time. Whether it's the self proclaimed genius that feels the necessity to point out how they would handle the delicate situation at hand, or the self righteous moron that thinks it's a good idea to point out the obvious. We live in a civilized society, and that's the only way I explain the existence of many of these people, because it's illegal for the rest of us to choke them to death so we can release the rage that they induce. However, that's not

blythewood sc real estate: It's All About the Follow Through - 05/19/09 08:50 PM
Even if you're not a big fan of sports, I'm sure that you can appreciate the need for a strong follow through in certain activities. When you are attempting a jump shot in basketball, it's great to have form and a good release, but you need to have a good follow through to increase your chances of obtaining your goal of making the shot. The same can be said for a golf swing. It's good to have a strong swing, and good aim, but you also need to follow through for good results. Life and business is no different when it comes

blythewood sc real estate: I was Wrong - 05/15/09 05:19 PM
Did you ever notice that those three words seem to be so difficult for most people to say? Well, like it or not, if you live long enough in this lifetime you will be wrong. In all honesty you will be wrong a lot. You will be misinformed, mislead, and sometimes you will just forget or become confused when attempting to answer a question. You will misinterpret information and you will mislead people. I'm not saying that you will think that you are wrong from the start and I am not talking about you intentionally misleading anyone you encounter. I'm simply

blythewood sc real estate: What the Creation of Heroin can Teach you about Real Estate - 05/12/09 11:08 AM
In 1898 Beyer, famous today for their Aspirin, released their latest miracle. A cough suppressant known as Heroin. At the time it was a completely innocent effort to aid people with chronic coughing issues to sleep through the night and relieve pain. Shortly after, Sears and Roebuck made Heroin kits available to the public through their mail order magazines. For $1.50 you could purchase a kit that included and steel seringe, Herion doses, replacement needles, and a carrying case. When you stop and think of the epidemic of addiction that this created, today this sounds insane. But the innocence of ignorance

blythewood sc real estate: Take Youself out of the Equation - 05/11/09 12:28 PM
Like anyone who may read this, I too am human. There are days when I wake up and right from the start everything seems to go wrong. I am completely used to one phone call or canceled appointment rearranging my entire day, that's just part of the business. However, like everyone else in the world there are days when the whole dynamic just gets to me. Having your entire day wrapped tightly around the fingers of anothers' whims can sometimes be more than just a little irritating. But, most of time you simply learn to accept it as fact and move

blythewood sc real estate: The Death of the Multimillion Dollar Producer - 05/09/09 02:29 PM
Lately I have noticed a trend on the part of local Realtor boards and real estate companies to downplay the use of the phrase multimillion dollar producer. I have discussed it with several agents, brokers, and instructors from out local Realtor board. It seems the decision to do so stems from misconceptions on the part of the public as to the exact definition of a multimillion dollar producer in the industry. You see, many consumers hear the phrase and immediately think that it means the carrier of the title makes millions of dollars by selling real estate. This is not at
