jl boney: You do Remember Why We do This Right? - 08/30/09 10:03 PM
I hear and read a lot these days about how difficult the business of real estate has become. How hard it is to remain motivated in the face of eternal detriment as the hand of today's economy. How short sales, foreclosures, and frightened public perception of the distorted American Dream has drained the life from what we once considered fun. But did you forget so quickly that beyond the trappings of business you are also the guide to a brand new life? The sometimes you are beyond blessed by your ability to ingrain your occupation into the lives of real life

Crossing their way through the heart of the Midlands is the Broad and Saluda Rivers that forge their way to form the Congaree. jl boney: JL Boney, III Died Today - 07/15/09 12:35 PM
My Grandmother was well known for sending obscure articles from the newspaper that she found interesting. When I was about 16 years old I received one of these articles and I opened it up to find an obituary. It read that J.L. Boney, III died today. This was interesting, after all, I had the same name. But, being a 16 year old, I paid little attention to it after the initial chuckle it gave me and I tossed it on the table next to my bed and forgot all about it. A few weeks later while lying in bed, I

jl boney: Disregarding Conformity - 06/19/09 11:13 AM
The funny thing about brilliance is the fact that most brilliant ideas come from the minds of ordinary people. They're not the sterotypical Einstein of modern society that locked themselves away reading ancient texts in an effort to unlock the secrets of the universe. Instead, they are everyday, dare I say normal, people who have a spark go off in their minds that leads to fire burning out of control that consumes all it touches. A fire of brilliance. Fire itself is a living breathing entity that requires heat, oxygen, and fuel to burn. And once it burns it

jl boney: The Witch Hunt Continues - 06/11/09 11:37 AM
All my life I have been a strong supporter of placing blame where it belongs. Find the guilty and punish them for their wrong doings and their inconsiderate actions toward society. But at what point does the chase for the guilty become the search for a scapegoat? At what point does it truly become a witch hunt? We all know how bad the economy has been and crunch of the economic crisis has been felt by far too many. But at what point is it counterproductive to spend valuable time and energy in search of a place to point our finger and

jl boney: You Must Accept What You Cannot Change - 06/06/09 02:04 PM
This is a phrase I have heard repeatedly throughout my life and at various points of my existence I used to agree with it. I thought that there was no point in fighting what was inevitable, and I still believe this is true. No matter how hard we fight it, some things are simply destined to be and we will never change it regardless of how hard we fight and scream. Certain aspects of this life are completely out of our hands and there is no need to spit against the wind. However, lately I have come to believe that

jl boney: Take Youself out of the Equation - 05/11/09 12:28 PM
Like anyone who may read this, I too am human. There are days when I wake up and right from the start everything seems to go wrong. I am completely used to one phone call or canceled appointment rearranging my entire day, that's just part of the business. However, like everyone else in the world there are days when the whole dynamic just gets to me. Having your entire day wrapped tightly around the fingers of anothers' whims can sometimes be more than just a little irritating. But, most of time you simply learn to accept it as fact and move

jl boney: I am Not Your Parents' Realtor - 05/04/09 04:06 PM
In years past there have been changes made to the industry that have affected us all across the board. There is a new breed of Realtor in the mix and those of us who have managed to embrace change have managed to thrive in a changing market. Those of us who have held firm to the past are closer and closer to becoming a part of history along with that past they cling to so tightly. Your parents' Realtor put a home on the MLS and a sign in the yard. From there they would wait, knowing that buyers would have

jl boney: 10 Reasons That You Should Wait to Buy in this Market - 04/20/09 11:00 AM
With all the posts out there about how now is the best time in history to run out and buy a home, I thought it only fair to show you the reasons that you should not do so. The last thing this economy needs is for consumers to start spending money, that would actually cause the great deals to go away. Mainly due to the fact that it would cause the economy and the real estate market to recover, and at this point that's the last thing we need. 10- Rent is fun to pay. I mean it's not at all like

jl boney: You're "trying" a Short Sale - 04/17/09 11:39 AM
Here in the Columbia, SC real estate market, our market is not dominated by short sales nor forclosures. We didn't see the huge impact of bank owned properties that many other parts of the nation unfortunately did encounter. That's not to say that we don't have them, because we do, it's just to say that they do not take up the majority of our homes for sale they are just a part of them. However, I will say one thing that I have run into with the short sales that are on the market here. I have seen many homes for

jl boney: The Price of Freedom - 04/16/09 09:59 PM
There is a horrible price to pay for the freedom we enjoy. It's a price that has been paid in blood since before the beginning of this great nation and regular payments have been since our founding. It's the blood of those that have sacrificed themselves in the belief that all of us have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The blood of patriots that made no complaints about lying on the alter freedom so that we may enjoy the simple pleasures that we are afforded the right to take for granted. Yes, there is a price

jl boney: So You Think You're "Cutting Edge" Do Ya - 04/16/09 01:44 PM
It seems to me these days that there is something new and exciting that becomes all the rage every five minutes. Some go on to maintain their initial success, while others flop out of existence as rapidly as they pop into the picture. You just never really know which fad will continue on to fortune and which one will be left in the dust by an increased A.D.D. ridden population. I have friends that believe that they must remain on the cutting edge of everything and that they must remain one step ahead of the rest of the pack. By the

jl boney: Misconceptions on Commission - 04/15/09 10:33 AM
Lately I have started to hear a trend amongst buyers do to a misconception where commission is concerned. When a buyer purchases a home for sale in Columbia, SC or really just a bout anywhere for that matter, they realize that their representation from a Realtor is free for them. Sellers pay commission and that commission is split between the listing and the selling agent. If the listing agent represents both side, the buyer and the seller, then they claim the full commission for the transaction and their is no split. I have heard however, from more than one would be

jl boney: What If......One More Wasted Phrase in the English Language - 04/14/09 03:16 PM
I have always wondered about people who spend a large amount of time wondering what if. What if they had done this instead of that? How would their lives be different if they had made decision rather than another? What if they had the nerve to throw caution to the wind and make a change or take a chance? What if they had paid more attention when they could have, would this all have come out different like a giant ripple affect altering the course life and perception of ability. What if....? What if you wasted all your life wondering what

jl boney: If The Only Thing That Hasn't Changed is You, Then You Have a Problem - 04/10/09 03:56 PM
Take a good long look at the world around you and then think back to what it was 10 years ago. There are probably very few things if any, that time has not touched in one way or another. Change is an inevitable force that can not and will not be wished away by an effort to remain the same, and in the end why would you? Adaptation and the ability to evolve as a person or a business is crucial to survival in both life and business. I completely understand the desire to complain about and fight a change that

jl boney: A Little Patience Goes a Long Way - 04/09/09 08:49 AM
A little Patience can certainly go a long way in this life. It doesn't even take a lot anymore, just a little can truly set you apart from those around you. The fact of the matter is that we live in a society that expects immediate results, whether they are likely or not. We want instant gratification, even when that is an absurd notion. We want instant connection, even if no one is available and we will move on if we don't make that connection right off the bat. For those of us that have the ability cultivate and have a

jl boney: It's Not Your Job to Disclose Your Client's Personal Business - 04/08/09 12:49 PM
Recently I wrote a post about disclosure and how it is a great thing. It can save you a lot of time and headache by simply disclosing issues with a home for sale upfront and getting it over with. What we perceive as small can be a really big deal to someone else, and I do not see it as our job to make an attempt predicting what is and is not important to every single person that takes a look at a home. Therefore when you know there is an issue, in my opinion it is best to just come

jl boney: One More Grain of Sand - 04/03/09 02:30 PM
I have seen a lot of people in this life spends countless hours and days searching for relevance. And the point of this all is? So many people make a half hearted attempt at proving their relavence in this life and that they have a place in the world. Well quite frankly if you had no place in the world you wouldn't be a part of it in the first place no would you? Like most things in the existence, I take a different approach from the norm and look at the situation in another light. I set out to prove
