I used to blog here all the time, but I started blogging on Facebook to market my real estate web marketing company, The Marketing Shop.com in early 2009. After just a year, I started getting very popular. Just last week I ranked at #87 in FAST COMPANY magazine's "Most Influential People Online," after only being in the contest for 8 days, and the opportunities at my doorstep are astounding. One of the most crucial aspects of marketing your business on Facebook through building community is the size of your niche target market. Granted, Facebook offers the best way known to man to connect with people you want to know, but unfortunately, they are making it more difficult for people to add friends and grow their network.

Cold Friending is my term for making friends on Facebook (or other social site liked LinkedIn) with people you don't already know in the real world. It's necessary to engage in Cold Friending to do Facebook Marketing. Your goal is to build a network of people in your niche target market. Here are the guidelines for cold friending.
Figure out who your target market is. Create a list of keywords pertaining to your niche. Go Facebook Search Box and type in the keywords that match your niche. (ie: "Realtor, Mortgage, Dentist, Doctor, Lawyer, Dallas, California") Click "Like" on relevant pages … (7 comments)
