This very basic concept all of us can benefit from. Its the Law Of Diminishing Intent. It just points out the best intention diminsh over time. Sure Sally wants to buy but someone has to pick up the kids from school, tomorrow she has an all day business meeting, the day after that she's going to the beach with friends and finally the day after that its...something else. The thing is most people intend on doing the right thing, yet we get caught up in something else. Sound familar? The key is to create a sense of ugency within yourself and others to act now, not later because what gets put off gets put off forever, in most cases. What is one thing you know you should do but have been putting off? Could you handle it in just a few minutes? One of the most exciting things about coaching people for me is getting people to act with a sense of urgency and passion. "The only thing that stands between a person and what they want from life is often the will to try it and the faith to believe it's possible." Rich Devos Refelcting on belief systems this morning I kept thinking about the Fiesta Bowl earlier this year between College Football power house Oklahoma Sooners and the little team that could Boise State Broncos. A true David and Goliath match up. Short of getting robbed at Oregon, Oklahoma was a true National Championship contender. Boise State while undefeated plays in a small conference and it's widely considered to have a weak schedule. At any rate the Broncos came out firing and looked like they were going to blow out the heavely favored Sooners. They jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first 8 minutes of the game. The Sooners came back and were able to stay close until they tied the game with 1:28 left. The Broncos offense is back on the field with 90 seconds to drive down to win the game and what happens? The Broncos QB throws an interception that gets returned for a touchdown, in a span of 30 seconds you went from great sports story to another near miss by an upstart team. But someone forgot to tell the Broncos the game was over. They drove down and with 7 seconds to go on 4th and 18 the pulled the most amazing thing I've ever seen in sports. A friggin Hook and Ladder Play!! And it worked to tie the game. No way this play works if you don't believe in it. Then in overtime after the Sooners scored right away the Broncos came back and scored in amazing fashion again. This time instead on going for the tie by kicking the extra point they went for the win with the Statue of Liberty play, here's what happened. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvfpK67RjEE&mode=related&search= This was by far the greatest football game I've ever watched. I remember being giddy afterwards, not because I'm a Boise State fan but because it was a performance that insires the soul. If you believe it will happen it will. If you believe the crazy play the coach calls is going to win the game for you it will. If you believe that you're plans are going to succeed they will as long as you put the work and commitment in. Change what you believe about whats possible and change your life. What one belief could you change today that would explode your business?
"You cannot discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore" Anonymous Most people lose sight of how truly simple any sales business is. They get caught up in chasing knowledge, always wanting to learn more so they can spout that information to the same 15-30 people they talk to every week. The key to exploding any business is getting out in the field and meeting people. It's all a mathimatical equation, or the law of averages. Lets assume that in Real Estate for every 100 new people you meet you close just 1 transaction. - Meet 5 new people a week it takes 20 weeks to close your 1 transaction.
- Meet 10 new people a week it takes 10 weeks to close your 1 transaction.
- Meet 20 new people a week it takes 5 weeks to close your 1 transaction.
- Meet 40 new people a week it takes 2.5 weeks to clos your 1 transaction.
- Meet 80 new people a week it takes 1.25 weeks to close your 1 transaction.
- Meet 125 new people a week it takes 4 days to close your 1 transaction.
I stopped at 125 people for a reason. There is an investment firm out there that part of their training of new advisors is to meet 125 new people per week. This in not a hello how are you, they actually have to meet people, get contact information to follow up and know learn something about these people. I also know you're probably not going to close a transaction in 4 days, it's possible but with how real estate works not likely. But what your business look like if you picked up a new listing every 4 days? How would your life change? I can hear it now, "There's no way I can meet 125 new people a week." YES YOU CAN!!! It's a matter of if you're truely committed to meeting 125 people per week. These financial advisors don't get through the sales training unless they do it and when they start they make a lot less money that what agents or loan officers would make with the same commitment. Let me finish with a few questions: What is it costing you by not meeting 125 new people every week? If you're not meeting new people everyday, what are you afraid of? Finally, what would happen if you closed 2% of new people you meet instead of 1%?
Here is a women that simply handled her circumstances: 1) Raped, sexually abused by age 9 with family and friend 2) Drugs, cocaine 3) Ghetto 4)Black 5) At Age 14 gave birth to a still born 6) Gained and lost hundreds of pounds And The Award Goes To...... "I will Just Create, and if it works, it works, and if it doesn't, I'll create something else. I don't have any limitations on what I think I could do or be." Oprah Winfrey How would your business look if you just flat out handled your circumstances?
" Success is simple, failure is simple! In order to SUCCEED you must SIMPLY be WILLING to do the little things that the failures are UNWILLING to do and to fail you must SIMPLY be unwilling to do the SIMPLE things that the winners do." Everyone has a dream, what's yours? Is it a powerful dream? Does it keep you up at night? Can you see it? Most people don't have big dreams because they are told to be realistic or that they can never achieve it. Why do we kill each other's dreams like this? Who are you or who am I to tell each other what we can or can't do? We live in the greatest country on earth. Our politics may be messed up (different discussion) but anyone, anywhere can wake up and go get anything they want, if their committed to making it happen. All you need is an un-wavering desire to get it and your brain will take care of the rest. Your brain does what you tell it, you ask it for a million dollars and it goes to work developing a plan to get a million dollars. People fail when they shut off their brain. They let others beat them down or beat themselves down and their brain stops working on it because it's never going to happen anyway. Watch the clip below, it's a powerful statement from one of the greatest rags to riches stories in our nation's history. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNB6n0FfqAU My challenge today is this. We all have dreams we've forgotten or given up on for one reason or another. What dream have you forgotten? Can you see it? Write it down and write down 10 things you can do to make it happen. After you do this I promise you you'll be in a much more powerful place than before you read this.
The movie "Take the Lead" with Antonio Banderas tells the tale based on a true story of Pierre Dulane, a classical dance instructor teaching inner-city kids dance while they are in detention. It's not a great movie by any stretch, however its message is one we can all benefit from. There are two scenes in which this message is delivered in a powerful way. In the first scene Dulane bails out one of his students from jail and takes to student back to his home to stay for the night. Dulane tells the student he can get anything he wants in life if he makes the right choices. The student replies "Only certain people get what they want in life." Dulane answers back after a slight pause "Yeah only people who show up to get it." In the second scene Dulane's students are upset because they just found out the competition he wants them to enter has a $200 entry fee. They accuse Dulane of wasting their time. He assures them he's teaching them something of value and the students answer back "not in our world". He again calmly responds "Do you know what I see when I look at this room? Do I see a room of rejects? Do I see a room of criminals? No I see a room of choices." You see that's all life is about, choices. You make the right or good choices and you'll succeed. You make bad choices and you don't, pretty simple. You can choose to be a leader or a follower. You can choose to get up early and go to the gym or hit snooze. You can choose to spend time prospecting everyday or sit in the office and check emails. You can choose to know preview homes everyday or ...see above. You can choose to put a smile on your face and say hi to passing strangers or put your head down and hope they don't notice you. You can choose to be honest with yourself or tell yourself little white lies to make yourself feel better. The quality of you life right now is a direct reflection of the choices you've made up until this point. The good news is you can improve everything right now by making better choices. If you would like help making better choices, we can literally change you life in a few sessions, contact me directly. Jamey Mays amazingcoaching@verizon.net (425) 205-3212
Ever notice when you're networking with other professionals in the market place they always say their company is the best to work for? How do you measure that really? We all have different needs and wants in an office or company and maybe that's the answer, what ever fits your needs the best is the best place to be. Some companies offer prestige, others offer training and even others yet provide a family atmosphere. I talk to several new agents every day and each has a different reason for being at one place over another. The thing is it doesn't matter where you work. What matters is hitting the streets every day and branding you. A very wise man once told me that and it took me working for a huge company and paying a premium for doing so to realize that. It's your name that matters, not the name on the card. Your clients are buying you, your energy, your professionalism. Have a great weekend out in the field branding you, I know I will be.
2 Major Keys to Your Success: 1) Do What Others are Unwilling to do and You will Always Succeed! Remember: Look around and see what others are doing and do just the opposite, it tells me that these are the things that others are willing to do, the key is to do what others are unwilling to do, most play it safe by doing what they are willing, the major key is to do what others are unwilling. 1) Being in the field consistently, most go in inconsistently or never! 2) Do live presentations, most fear public speaking! Get strong in this area!!! You will massively separate and remember you must separate or you are herded into the rest of the other sales people and when you are herded it's hard to choose, there are too many! 3) Massive Follow Up, remember the, "Fortunes in The Follow-Up!" 4) Go to All Closings!! Do you have to, of Course not, you don't have to do any of these things, you just are willing to do these things because you know they are high payoff activities and high payoff activities have high payoff results!! 5) Send daily success e-mails to your referral partners! Keep reminding them that you are there for them, remember if you are not reminding them, your competition is!! 2) Handle What Others are Unwilling to Handle and You Will Always Succeed!! 1) Mama, my feet hurt! Listen, that man has no feet! We all have circumstances, handle it, most are unwilling! 2) Handle the "No Time" circumstance, "No Money" circumstance, "No education" circumstance, "No Assistant" circumstance, these are the minors, and remember to focus on the majors of life and not the minors, most major in the minors!! Get Your Appointment Today!!! Most will be Unwilling to Do!
RITUALS If you want to look at a person's life, look at a person's rituals! Rituals are patterns we do over and over until so wired in our body and nervous systems that we don't even recognize it, we just are at the effect of them! What are your rituals, the rituals that empower you as well as disable you, the ones that at a conscious level you know you have, yet at an unconscious level, you are just at the effect? What you do with your day are your rituals! What you say to yourself are your rituals! How you respond to life and things are your rituals! How you listen are your rituals! How you speak are your rituals! Are you a committed speaker and listener or do you listen and speak from there? Those that consistently use the word "Try", I "Got" are not committed speakers as they are speaking from "There," as their automated rituals take them there! What are you saying to yourself automatically, the unconscious conversation, the conversations that run and direct 88% of your life? Are your unconscious conversations to yourself limiting? Or are you operating out of pure possibilities and encouragement? The first key to shifting your rituals is to become conscious, aware, and present to them as most are simply unaware and unconscious not only to their rituals, yet to their own life! Getting off automatic in your life is the major "Key" to your own success, as mentioned your rituals are your life. Empowering rituals are patterns as well as disempowering rituals, look at some of yours! Sample Rituals 1) Up early or Late ( Late to bed, early to rise, until you earn enough money to do otherwise) 2) Healthy breakfast, unhealthy breakfast, or no breakfast (Breakfast, most important meal of the day, some were told otherwise, what were you taught?) 3) Gym or no Gym, ( What's your automated conversation in this area, "I'll go tomorrow, running late, I'll go tonight, yet tonight runs late, as always! 4) Car listening (University on Wheels!) 15 minutes of success on audio, morning drive and 15 minutes evening drive, 30 minutes a day or 15 hours a month or 185 hours a year, remember we become that which we study, study success on your way! Your way to the top, I got it, we'll call it, "Study your way to the top!" Study yourself, study your clients, study your industry, study your competition, plain simple! Do not be caught not studying, that would make us ignorant, if I do not study a client I would be ignorant of my clients wounds and wants and being ignorant of our clients wounds and wants just isn't effective and we are committed to being effective, we'll call it being an, "Effective human being!" 5) Office Time: What are your office rituals, the things you do when you arrive? Who do you talk and communicate with automatically, the safe bet? Where and what do you spend your time while there? Are you doing highend or lowend "Stuff," the safe bet! Are you sitting or standing while communicating, are you putting yourself in proper state before entering into communication or are you "Hoping" that you are already there? Are you doing the easy stuff first and the hard stuff "Later," knowing that later rarely comes! 6) Prospecting (The more you make the more you make, simple, no equation!) Do you have an empowering conversation that moves you to prospect, do you make prospecting fun, do you make it game or do have the mindset that again says, "No time?" "I'll Get to it tomorrow?" "I was just out there?" "Too many people are already out there?" What's yours? 7) Reading ( Those that do not read are no better than those that cannot read! Readers are leaders! Jim Rohn says, "Miss a meal, do not miss your reading") You do not have to read a book a day, just 10 pages a day as 10 pages a day will traditionally allow you to read about 1.5 books per month and that's 18 books a year. Some will choose not to read because they think they have to read the whole book right now, others know better, some of the book today, some tomorrow and some the next day and the next day until done. 8) Journal ( Master motivator once said that, "If your life is worth living then it's worth recording!") What your automated ritual say, "Tomorrow, sometime, later, why bother, too much trouble?" Takes just some of your time, not all your time, put some time into recording your life, the good and the bad! 9) Relationships (The quality of your life is in direct proportion to the quality of your relationships!) At the end this is all we have! 10) Bedtime ( Are you visualizing your next day, your future, are you putting yourself into a deep powerful place for optimum rest? It's not how long you sleep, it's how deep you sleep! It's not how long you are in a relationship rather how deep that relationship is, it's not how long you live, yet it's, how you live! How you live, are you rituals! The bottom line is to recreate your life in such a powerful way that the day to day rituals you are operating from are rituals that you can be proud of, rituals that inspire you and send a great message to the world about who you are and what you are up to, period!
