partisan politics: RECALCULATING: How the Economy Mimics a GPS - 12/27/11 08:13 PM
Recalculating—most of us have heard that phrase as a GPS sought to discover a new route, and most of us have felt similarly perplexed as we tried to make sense of the maze that is our present economy. “Economists” tell us that the great recession ended a couple of years ago, but a quick look around tells a different tale. We only have to look to the (real) unemployment rate, declines in incomes, trillions of real estate equity lost, millions of foreclosures, new home sales at record lows and half of American households receiving some type of government benefits, with more

partisan politics: Let’s Get Real on the Debt “Deal” - 11/20/11 07:06 PM
Recent comments from members of both political parties regarding the lack of a “deal” within the debt super-committee border on laughable; let’s get real on the debt “deal.” NEITHER political party has put forth serious proposals that would truly and significantly lower the deficit. Their arguments are merely over how to lessen the rate of increase; and they base their ridiculous assumptions upon over-estimated revenue and underestimated spending. Even if they make dramatic cuts the end result will be a larger deficit. While we must make major cuts in government spending, both parties realize such cuts would create a huge public

partisan politics: The Big Lie of the “Debt Deal” - 08/06/11 10:06 AM
The following post was written just moments before the downgrade of U.S. credit was announced by S & P; and while it doesn't directly deal with the downgrade, it addresses the actions of our "leaders" which led to the crisis. The Big Lie of the “Debt Deal While the Administration and members of both political parties have claimed victory with the passage of the debt ceiling increase, few seem willing to discuss the reality of what actually occurred. Both sides, as well as the President have touted the plan as the beginning steps of a major reform that will allow us

partisan politics: Regardless of Who Wins the Debt Negotiations, Americans Lose - 07/27/11 08:08 PM
While the media seem to love the political theater surrounding the debt negotiations, the truth is: Neither political party is proposing to do what is necessary to restore fiscal sanity to our nation’s budget. Regardless of who wins the debt negotiations, Americans lose. Both parties have offered budget cuts, but the reality is that neither has proposed legitimate reductions that would actually lower the deficit during the next decade. In order to ensure acceptance of their so-called cuts by their bases, both sides are holding firm on certain provisions in order to pacify supporters and secure reelection. The reality, which

partisan politics: A Radical Proposal - 07/22/11 05:06 PM
As the political rhetoric heats up in advance of the 2012 election, politicians on both sides of the aisle are wasting OUR time playing the puerile games of partisan politics when they should be seeking solutions to the serious problems we face. We shouldn’t have to put up with the politics of politics . . . but we do. While I’ve voted in every presidential election—11 of them—since becoming eligible in 1964, in each one I was faced with the dilemma of selecting the least objectionable “politician.” I don’t want any more politicians. I want a statesman, a leader who will

partisan politics: The Ridiculously Stupid Debt Ceiling Debate - 07/14/11 11:12 PM
Don’t look now, but the ridiculously stupid debt ceiling debate is entering its final lap. Spectators are leaning on the rails to see which side will win. What most fail to realize is that the date touted as the “backs to the wall,” imminent default event beyond which the U.S. credit rating plummets like that of a foreclosed homeowner, is an arbitrary and meaningless time frame set by Treasury Secretary Geithner, the same Tim Geithner who apparently could not figure out how to properly fill in the blanks on his TurboTax form. With a current ceiling set at $14.3 trillion—a scary

partisan politics: Washington is Ignoring the Debt Crisis - 05/09/11 06:47 PM
For all the hoopla and talk surrounding the “debt ceiling,” Washington is ignoring the debt crisis. What we’re seeing is political pandering, not leadership, and both parties are equally guilty. While Republicans promised to provide leadership and to restore fiscal sanity, they’re too cowardly to take the bold actions necessary to return our economy to sound financial footing. Republicans need to lead or go home. As President Bush said regarding the war on terror: “Either you are with us, or you’re with the terrorists.” It seems obvious that our politicians aren’t with us in this crisis, one with the potential to

partisan politics: I’m Sick Of It: A Negative Inquiry Seeking Positive Results - 09/18/10 10:17 PM
While some refuse to participate in “partisan politics,” far too many have chosen it as their canon. A quick review of the daily newspaper or news channel will confirm a biased media that seems intent on maintaining a divided citizenry. However, unless we can impartially analyze both our problems and ALL potential solutions, it will be impossible for our economy to recover and our country to return to its former greatness. I’m sick of partisan politics! I’m sick of it when our elected officials seem more intent on crushing their political opponents than addressing the critical issues facing our country.
