networking: Twitter Tweets from NAR - 11/20/07 03:29 AM
Earlier this month I decided to take a second look at Twitter. I was still unsure about what this little utility could do, but saw some potential with social networking. The 2007 REALTORS® Conference & Expo presented a great chance to test it out, so I set up an account and began following a few people from ActiveRain.
During the conference there was a lot of activity as Twitterers shared highlights from breakout sessions, great finds on the Expo floor, lunch and dinner invitations, or just quick quips. It was a great opportunity to connect and learn with others, or just get a glimpse into another facet … (18 comments)

networking: Twitter Gets Me Out of A Jam - 11/18/07 03:54 AM
After leaving the 2007 REALTORS® Conference & Expo at about 2 PM on Friday afternoon, I thought I would take a quick trip to the top of the Venetian parking garage (14 stories up) to take some photos. My plan was to snap a few quick pics and then get away from the Strip before rush-hour traffic hit.
After my last shot I began the descent out of the parking garage. 14 ... 12 ... 11 ... 10 ... a little delay ... 9 ... a longer delay. Checked a few text messages, moved a couple of feet, checked a few more, dead stop.
Fifteen minutes later I … (29 comments)

networking: Follow the AR Party Live on Twitter! - 11/14/07 04:05 PM
Can't make tonight's party at The Palms but still want to get in on the action? Looking at the confirmed guest list so far, I see about eight Twitter users and I'm sure they'll be active tonight!
Just go to Twitter to set up an account and then build your list of people to follow. It's easy!
Here are just some of the people I've seen tweeting about the 2007 NAR Convention here is Las Vegas:
Joel Burslem, Dustin Luther, Jeff Turner, Joseph Ferrara, Pat Kitano, Greg Swann, Kristal Kraft, Linda Davis, Daniel Rothamel, Matt Gosselin, Marlene Scheffer, Cheryl Johnson, Andy … (8 comments)

networking: Seth Godin and Twitter at NAR - 11/14/07 01:00 PM
Recently I wrote about Twitter and referenced a post by Daniel Rothamel from The Real Estate Zebra. Daniel saw three uses for Twitter: an educational resource; a networking resource; and a way to communicate with your clients. Here's an example of the first two.
On Tuesday, Seth Godin delivered a presentation at NAR. I wasn't able to attend, so following the running commentary of Kristal Kraft, Daniel Rothamel and Jeff Turner on Twitter was the next best thing. Here are some of their tweets capturing the highlights and wisdom of Seth Godin:
From Kristal Kraft:
People need to know we can solve their pain problem. Sell … (10 comments)

networking: A quick social networking survey - 11/12/07 04:07 PM
Many of us got our start in social networking right here on ActiveRain. Or perhaps we had profiles on other sites, but the Rain helped us see the huge potential of sharing with and getting to know others.
At BlogWorld Expo last week in Las Vegas, social networking was one of the hottest topics. As blogging continues to gain popularity these online networks are going to explode. Facebook, Gather and LinkedIn were three of the sites that were mentioned the most for business.
One thing I realized at the expo is that even with 50,000+ members, ActiveRain is just a drop in the … (23 comments)

networking: Sunny skies for NAR convention - 11/10/07 03:35 AM
I just checked our weather forecast for next week's 2007 REALTORS® Conference and Expo, and three of the four days say "Sunny skies" with Thursday being "Mostly clear". Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 70's during the day and low 50's at night.
We couldn't ask for better weather as Las Vegas hosts more than 50,000 real estate professionals for the national convention. I'm looking forward to meeting and networking with a lot of great agents!
So enjoy your time in our great city, and remember "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas ... unless someone blogs about it on ActiveRain!"

networking: Taking a second look at Twitter - 11/03/07 09:30 PM
When Jeff Turner first introduced Twitter to the ActiveRain community, he said "it has already provided value and a way to connect with people and ideas I certainly would not have otherwise," but ended his post with "Can I guarantee you'll get it? No. I'm not sure I do. :)" And at that point, I didn't get it.
Andy Kaufman wrote about the "real estate digerati" starting to adopt Twitter, and even included an easy step-by-step guide to getting started. Jonathan Washburn followed with an intriguing idea to use Twitter within a real estate office and feed the communications to your blog.
But even … (18 comments)

networking: The ActiveRain Spring Break Blog Tour - 03/29/07 01:56 AM
Seeing a post from Maureen Francis this week reminded me of all of the great community-building events she has done for ActiveRain. First there was 'The Race for Third', the battle between Sara Lipnitz and Josh Plummer for the #3 ranking in Michigan that even had Matt and Caleb taking sides!
Next came the "Yearbook Awards for ActiveRain", followed by the first ActiveRain Blog Tour (also see this follow-up post). Other posts and ideas by Maureen:

networking: Breaking 100,000 points - 03/03/07 08:07 PM
Out of nearly 19,000 members, only twenty have reached 100,000 points on ActiveRain. Looking through their profiles, I notice some are power bloggers, some are great recruiters, some have built great presences on Localism. Many are a mix of all three.
There's something about human psychology and numbers. In our youth we can't wait to turn 10, 16, 18 and 21. Society (and the greeting card industry) has attached significance to 30, 40, and 50. I had a great 40th birthday just a couple years ago, and we all remember one day in December when ActiveRain became ActiveRich for Rich Jacobson's 50th. While it is … (51 comments)

networking: Networking at the 2007 Family Reunion - 02/21/07 03:58 PM
Tony Marriott wrote a post earlier this week on The Value of Networking. He and his wife Suzanne have been Road Warriors between Phoenix and Las Vegas lately, making trips for CRS Sell-A-Bration, Keller Williams Family Reunion, and a one-day Internet mastermind session. The Marriotts spend two hours a day networking and no doubt have made many quality contacts in the last four weeks.
My strategy is to bring people with a common interest together over a good meal, or spend a few minutes after a breakout session. At last year's Family Reunion, we had over fifty ePROs meet for lunch at … (4 comments)

networking: Generating business with investor seminars - 12/02/06 11:40 PM
One part of my business plan for 2007 involves building an investor clientele by hosting investor seminars with our in-house lender, John LiCausi, of Metrocities Mortgage. We'll be using The Millionaire Real Estate Investor as a guide. Keller Williams makes this easy for their agents by producing The MREI Client Workshop Kit which includes Power Point slides, a seminar script, marketing materials (flyers, postcards and newspaper ads), an instructor training video and CD, and 32 copies of the book.
Gary Keller writes that a successful investor surrounds themselves with a Work Network consisting of three circles: the Inner Circle (consultants, partners and mentors), … (7 comments)

networking: ActiveRain 1 and 2 - A look behind the numbers - 09/20/06 09:32 PM
Early this afternoon, news broke that Teri Isner was the new #1 overall on ActiveRain. For now that has proven to be temporary as Jamie Maxwell has regained the top spot by 17 points.
Like many others, I've wondered 'How did they get so many points?' When I joined the network on August 21 (invited by Maureen McCabe), Jamie was #1 with 59,385 points and Teri was #2 at 47,535. After adding a phone number to my profile, creating an Associates list, and viewing my scoring summary I had a whopping 350! Since then I've blogged, commented, linked and invited my way to … (4 comments)
