IT'S NOT JUST FOR TV ANYMORE - 12/31/08 10:45 AM
CSI Move Over
Barry and Stone County criminals better watch out.  A long needed crime lab has opened in Springfield, MO, which will seriously cut the previous  wait for test results by law enforcement officers.

There has been only one lab until now.  Stone and Barry counties will be able to use the lab and it is anticipated,  that what used to take almost a year to obtain DNA and forensic results, will be shortened to less than 60 days in most cases

The state of the art lab will serve as a back up to the Jefferson … (0 comments)

SPIDERS AND OTHER FUN THINGS - 12/28/08 03:13 PM
I was totally in love with the Ozarks (still am for that matter) and really enjoyed the milder climate when we  moved to Shell Knob 22 years ago.
We have 4 distinct seasons in SW Missouri - some longer or shorter than others - depending upon the year.  What  took me a while to understand, is that along with the increased sunshine and scarcity of snow, came a climate that encouraged insect and critter growth.
It's not one of my favorite topics, but personal safety and health concerns need to be known by potential Shell Knob residents.

I saw … (0 comments)

WINTER FISHING IN THE OZARKS - 12/28/08 02:32 PM

While it is well known that Trout like cold water streams, people often don't think about fishing in the winter - other than ice-fishing in the north.

Many Shell Knob anglers go  over to Roaring River State Park, near Cassville, Missouri.  The fishing park is in great shape and offers less crowded conditions in the winter for the Catch and Release of trout.
Roaring river is very clear and offers some nice three and four pounders', with reports of several trout over 5 pounds.
Catch and Release continues until March 1st, after which you can harvest your trout and … (1 comments)

Downturn Can Be a Plus For Homeowners - 12/26/08 12:31 AM
TIME FOR HOME REPAIR?
The current economic downturn  offers  some excellent opportunities for homeowners.  Builders who can't sell the last home or two they built on speculation (Spec Houses)  in Shell Knob, are probably not starting to build more until one of the homes sell.
This puts many skilled craftsmen (and some not so skilled - let's be honest) with time on their hands and no income.  This might just be the perfect time for Mr. & Mrs. Homeowner to do some home improvements.
Personally, I just had three of my outdoor doors replaced on my 23 year old Shell Knob … (9 comments)

WHAT DO YOU THINK GOD LOOKS LIKE ? - 12/21/08 01:47 PM
WHO IS GOD IN YOUR MIND?

This question got a good work-out  as I read a book my 16 year old grandaughter loaned me.
I remember being told in a Phil Driscol concert to close my eyes and picture Jesus, as Phil played that fantastic  trumpet of his.  I immediately had  Christ charging through the sky on a white stallion - but I could not actually put a face on Him.

This book about God and our relationship to Him is "The Shack" by William P. Young.  An introduction by Eugene Peterson says: "This book has the potential to … (5 comments)

Boat Shows ARE COMING - 12/19/08 01:46 PM
If Christmas is here, then Boat Shows can't be far behind.  And as people start to think about boats, they turn their thoughts to water, and possible real estate on the waterfront.

Just about the time  Cabin Fever sets in - post holiday blahs - the solution to the problem is to attend a January Boat Show.  There is nothing like the smell and feel of a new boat to get the juices flowing and make the snow disappear.

The Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce, and local dealers,  attend several Shows in the Boat Show season.  The area's … (3 comments)

SAYING GOODBYE TO STUMPY - 12/18/08 02:21 PM
Shell Knob had another restaurant bite the dust this week.  Popular with summer Table Rock lake visitors, Stumpy Burger was known for it's excellent burgers.

These burgers reminded people of the old fashioned greasy grilled cheezeburgers of ages past.  That was when even the bun was grilled and crisp with grease.  A single cheezeburger was quite filling for most and it took a really huge appetite to do away with a double!

Sadly, it is difficult for merchants to survive and make a living with a town where the year round population in Shell Knob is  less than 1,500.  … (5 comments)

YOU DIDN'T GET THE LISTING - NOW WHAT? - 12/15/08 03:46 PM
Does this situation fit anyone?  You get a call from a homeowner to come by and look over their home.  You do your homework, check for comps, prepare a nice listing presentation  and show up on time.  You are the only agent they have called. The appointment seems to go well.  Good vibes with the sellers.  They ask for recommendations on what they can do to improve the home's sale appeal and value.  You leave with the confidence  that when they are ready to sell their Shell Knob, MO home in a few months, you will be the listing agent.Six months later … (0 comments)

DON'T WASH OUT - GO TO THE DOGS - 12/15/08 01:50 PM

Want to supplement your income during these trying economic times?  You might consider getting in on a new trend - Dog Washes.

Watched a show on tv last week  featuring a  huge Car Wash somewhere in California.  They had every new high tech invention imaginable, including recycling the wash water.  They gave modern and old fashioned service, taking pride in providing excellent service to their customers.
My attention was sparked when another feature of the Car Wash was  a Dog Wash!  How about that?  You wash your dog while they wash your car!  NO - the dog doesn't … (4 comments)

TO CARD OR NOT TO CARD - 12/11/08 01:01 PM
Christmas cards are being written or prepared to be written here in Shell Knob, so here comes the annual question - who do I send them to - or  - do I  send any at all?   Why not an E-card which is really greener - saves trees?
If I opt for old fashioned snail-mail,  then the next question is,  do you put a business card inside?  So we are back to the Who question.  Who do I send to?Family that lives down the street?
Friends I see at church?
Clients I've worked with, but not sold?
Clients I've helped … (8 comments)

November Market Report Shell Knob - 12/10/08 12:03 PM

November is officially the start of the 'Off Season'  for real estate sales around Table Rock Lake, which makes it a great time for buyers to be shopping for a lake home. There were four price reductions on today's multiple listing report,  reflecting current market conditions.  A small cottage came down $10,000 in price.  The biggest drop was on a luxury home, which was reduced by $110,000.  Two more homes reduced the asking price by $46,000 and $44,000.
Last month's sales were single diget:  TWO - YES TWO HOMES were closed with the average sale price   $158,500 - average DOM … (3 comments)

DO YOU NEED FLOOD INSURANCE? - 12/10/08 11:53 AM

Flood insurance is not a normal topic of discussion in the Ozarks.  We sit no where near a coastline. In the past, when a buyer would inquire if they would need flood insurance, I would just shrug off the question.  All of that changed this year, with 2008 providing us with  record rainfall.Table Rock Lake is in the middle of a chain of four Corps of  Engineer dams, which created reservoirs.  All four lakes were filled to capacity last spring, which resulted in some flooding of low property.  This has brought in FEMA and the topic of flood insurance.

ALL WORK AND NO PLAY? - 12/09/08 01:33 PM
Tri-Lakes Realtors Celebrate
2008 was certainly a 'Different' year for real estate sales in the Ozarks, and a great year for me when I joined the Tri-Lakes team.
Working in the Shell Knob office, one of 5 Tri-Lakes offices which circle Table Rock Lake, I hadn't seen the whole organization together too often, but that was remedied last Saturday.  We were all treated to a Christmas and Awards Dinner Party at the Big Cedar Lodge in Branson, MO.  And what a marvelous winter wonderland the Big Cedar Lodge was..............acres of beautiful lights and displays everywhere you turned.

SOMETHING FISHY IN SHELL KNOB - 12/06/08 01:59 PM

A Christmas present of sorts will begin this week on Table Rock Lake.  I'm not sure if this present will be more for the fish or the fishermen - probably a bit of both.
December 8 to December 19th, Hill and Hill Dock and Barge Service of Shell Knob, will be loading barges for the Missouri Dept of Conservation with tree tops and stumps.  These materials will be dropped to create  or improve fish habitat around the lake.  Sounds like a very "Green" thing to do.  This is a gift that just keeps on giving for fish and sportsmen alike.

THANKING OUR HERO'S - 12/01/08 02:23 PM

Toward the end of our church service yesterday, our pastor asked a young man sitting in the rear to come up front.  He was introduced to the congregation as a returning soldier who deserved our thanks for serving two rotations in Iraq.
Church members eagerly came up to hug and thank this young man for  his service.
Wars have always been fought by our youth, but it's hard to see just how young they are when we watch the evening news.  They wear armor and carry so many supplies, it hides the young men under the uniforms.
This young man … (0 comments)
