shell knob fishing: Everything Shell Knob - 01/29/12 05:19 PM
This Week In Shell KnobIt's close, but February isn't here yet.
It has been a weird,  wonderful winter  weather wise in Shell Knob.   Just a bit of snow one day in December, which was gone by noon and temps above average - my kind of weather.  True - not the 70's which my son in Honolulu  experiences , but cool enough to have an occasional fire in the fireplace.  No need even for winter coats.

Having four seasons is nice, especially when the coldest one is  short here in the Ozarks.  Short as it is, we start to think of … (0 comments)

shell knob fishing: Shell Knob Waits - 04/14/11 05:14 PM
Shell Knob is waiting for spring rains.   April Showers, and all that good stuff.   Winter precipitation was not up to normal expectations and lake levels went down to 906 feet in February.Boat dock owners have had to stay alert to adjust the docks and maintain a safe level to protect the floats.  Table Rock Lake is now up to 912 feet, but for mid-April, a time when the fish make nests and spawn, this is not normal pool.
Table Rock Lake is noted for excellent fishing.  Fishermen watch the levels closely as heavy rains coming at this time can … (1 comments)

shell knob fishing: Spring Means FISHING in Shell Knob - 02/28/10 04:26 PM
Springtime is a seven letter word in Shell Knob.  It is spelled  FISHING!!  It can be Fly Fishing at Roaring River State Park, or Bass Fishing on Table Rock Lake with the FLW Tour.

I've noticed boat traffic on Table Rock  this week, which is nice after a long cold winter.   Evidentally some of the FLW tournament participants are checking out the lake to find the most likely spots to catch  lunkers during the 4 day tournament set for March 3-6.

BUT..... my big question of what do the initials "FLW " stand for, remains unanswered.  Google … (1 comments)

shell knob fishing: HERE FISHY FISHY...... - 04/03/08 02:09 PM
April is here on Table Rock Lake, Shell Knob,  Missouri.   So where are the fish? This is  normal spring spawn time.  The time of year when anglers rush to Shell Knob and Table Rock, when Bass Tournaments abound, when winter dreams of bringing in that lunker catch are fulfilled.
Well that was then, and this is now.  Now the beautiful, clear, normally clean lake has turned muddy brown.  Day after day of monumental rains, the likes of which we haven't seen here in the  Ozarks for more than 15 years have continued to flood the region, resulting in Table Rock being filled with debris.  … (4 comments)

shell knob fishing: HELP WANTED IN SHELL KNOB, MO - 12/28/07 11:15 AM
END OF AN ERA ON TABLE ROCK
For a good number of years, Shell Knob has been treated to a weekly fishing report from local historian, Tom Koob.  I was sorry to read in our weekly paper "The Rattler", that last week was his last column.  Here are some highlights from his last excellent musings.

"I've tried to write a report that would actually help people catch fish on Table Rock and supply information about this great fishery and resource.
Not long after I started these reports, Table Rock's bass fishery experienced serious problems with a bacterialinfection and Largemouth Bass Virus. There … (2 comments)

shell knob fishing: SHELL KNOB FISHING REPORT - 07/01/07 03:45 PM
END OF JUNE
Temperatures have been rising and most areas of the lake are over 80 degrees.  Lake level has dropped to 917.5, but that could be going back up after some substantial rains.  June has proven to be a record year for rainfall in the Ozarks.

The water remains quite clear on Table Rock.  Catfishing is very good on trot lines baited with small bluegill or cut shad.  According to Tom Koob, Shell Knob's author and fishing expert, use liver , worms or cut shad for rod and reel.  A two hook rig is helpful with keeping these baits on the … (0 comments)
