Worldwide Perspective of US Housing Market

I was recently in Spain and had the opportunity to see how the US housing market crisis is perceived outside the US. Worldwide the US market has a profound effect on financial markets due to the fact that many foreign investors have ownership in US mortgages and with the mortgage crisis are facing losses. On the up side for Europeans, with the Euro being so strong against the Dollar and US housing prices low the opportunity to invest in the US housing market is prime. It is widely reported that many Europeans are seeking to invest in the US market because they know that the market will go up again and that long term real estate is one of the smartest investments to build wealth. The biggest thing I took away from watching news reports outside the US is the reality that the world financial markets are very dependent on each-other and we truly have a worldwide market.
