By Jodi Summers Before the recession, then-Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger, signed Executive Order S-21-09, directing the California Air Resources Board to adopt regulations increasing California’s Renewable Portfolio Standard to 33% by 2020. Current Gov. Jerry Brown recently made it law - requiring California get 33% of its electricity from renewable sources, such as wind and solar energy, in the next 8.5 years. The California law increases the previous mandate - AB 32, California’s landmark 2006 global warming initiative which called for investor-owned utilities such as Edison to produce 20% of their power from wind, solar and geothermal energy by 2010. Perhaps the most noteworthy news is that the inventory of residential property is down to a 4.8 months supply of inventory. FYI...buyer-seller parity is 3.7 months of inventory. Yes, the double dip in residential real estate prices has hit SoCal, but Santa Monica is a different story. DQ News reports that residential sales in Southern California declined in March to 19,412, dropping by -5.2% compared with March 2010. Doorways are no stronger than any other part of the structure. During an earthquake, get under a sturdy piece of furniture and hold on. This will provide some protection from falling objects that can injure you during an earthquake. Become aware of fire evacuation and earthquake plans for all of the buildings you occupy regularly.
