the oaks of shenandoah: Main St to open, Main St to close - 07/14/11 10:55 PM
Anoka County does it again, they win the three legged milk stool award for the Main St project in Coon Rapids. Over a year to upgrade a mile of roadway from 2 to 4 lanes. They accomplished this by starting on the quickest part of the project first, then moving on to the portion that would take the most time to complete. I am hoping this opens up in the next few days as people have been using the Oaks of Shenandoah neighborhood I live in as a detour. This part that was closed is from Coon Creek Blvd to Hanson.

the oaks of shenandoah: New light by the Sherriff's Office - 12/09/10 07:43 PM
They have been working on it for a few months now but, today they turned on the light at Hanson and 133rd. This intersection definitely needed a light as people turn left there from every direction. At times there could several cars there waiting to turn left from every possible angle. You reall had to think through what each car would do as they moved through the intersection and then decide if you could proceed safely. Between the addition of the new Sherriff's office and the new entry into Wedgewood neighborhood, the traffic count was very high. Plus on those fall … (0 comments)

the oaks of shenandoah: Finally widening 242 - 12/11/08 09:54 PM
I just went over to the Coon Rapids City Center to hear about the plans to widen Highway 242, now known as County 14 and Main Street. The road will be upgraded to 4 lanes from Coon Creek to Crane Street, which is just past Hanson. The construction will start in 2010 and likely close down the road from Hanson to Shenandoah Blvd to clear out the peat bog or build a land bridge. The county engineer said there is around 5 feet of tar from all of the fill down over the years in the area by the sod fields.

the oaks of shenandoah: Fall Colors In Coon Rapids - 10/18/08 07:23 PM
The fall colors were spectacular this year in Coon Rapids. I added a few pictures below to show you some of what I saw on our walk today through Bunker Hills Regional Park and the Oaks of Shenandoah. We walked through the new tunnel under Hanson Blvd and over to the new tunnel under the railroad tracks and through the golf course. They still have it closed at the tracks but we walked on around anyway. The trail map is below the pictures.

Enjoy the pictures!

the oaks of shenandoah: The Oaks of Shenandoah - 05/06/08 09:41 PM
The Oaks of Shenandoah neighborhood was developed from 1986-1993. This was the premier area of Coon Rapids at the time and still has a distinctive flare and many mature trees. The Oaks has homes from the $200,000 up to $600,000 price range, all single family homes. There were 10-20 existing homes when the neighborhood was developed that are still there, adding charm and character.
Bunker Hills regional park is a mile east and has some of the best bike and hiking trails around. There is also 27 hole golf course, which hosted the Senior PGA for several years. Coon Rapids Dam … (0 comments)
