You show up at your client's location, only to find that he/she does not have appropriate photo identification.  What to do?  Should you go ahead and perform the notarization anyway, figuring no one will be the wiser?  Absolutely not.  This is a job for credible identifying witnesses.
All you need are two people who personally know the signer and are not parties to the document(s).  They must appear before you with their own appropriate photo ID, and must be able to truthfully answer "yes" to the questions you ask them under oath (see the California Notary Handbook for a list … (0 comments)

THERE'S AN EXPRESSION: "THE CHEAP COMES OUT EXPENSIVE."
IT'S JUST AS TRUE WHEN YOU HIRE A CHEAP MOBILE NOTARY PUBLIC, HOPING TO SAVE A FEW DOLLARS.  CHEAP NOTARIES MAY SEEM LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME, BUT THEY CAN ACTUALLY COST YOU MUCH MORE.
THEIR DOCUMENTS MAY BE REJECTED BY COUNTY RECORDERS.  THEIR NOTARIZATIONS MAY BE DEEMED INVALID.  THEY MAY NOT FOLLOW PROPER PROCEDURES, POTENTIALLY RENDERING THEIR NOTARIZATIONS WORTHLESS.
PLEASE DON'T GET BURNED BY SOMEONE OFFERING YOU MOBILE NOTARY SERVICES AT RIDICULOUSLY LOW PRICES.  WITH NOTARY SERVICES, JUST AS WITH ANYTHING ELSE, YOU REALLY DO GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

Notarizing in Restaurants and Other Public Places - 12/18/08 06:46 PM
Sometimes it's not practical for a client to meet me at his home or his place of business, but rather to meet at another location (such as a Starbucks, a pizza place or other restaurant, etc.).  This is fine, but there are a few things to consider when doing this:
Try to meet where you can get a table and chairs, so that you and your client can sit comfortably during the notarization.  Most Starbucks have very small tables, but that's still plenty good enough.
