twitter: Don't drink the "TweeterGetter" Kool-Aid - 02/13/09 01:09 AM
I wrote this at about 2 am this morning, and decided to sleep on it before posting.  This morning, after reading it again and getting 5 or 6 more requests to check out TweeterGetter, I'm even more prepared to hit the "submit new post" button.
As you may or may not know, Twitter is a revolutionary socializing website that allows people to communicate 140 characters at a time with people who are following you. The more followers you have, the more people theoretically see your message every time you tweet.  Yesterday, I got about a dozen updates from fellow Twitterers talking … (11 comments)

twitter: Inman Connect Real Estate Conference -- NYC - 01/06/09 05:09 PM
Tonight, I did something totally out of character, but I'm really excited about it!
I've got a lot going on, and months ago, had reluctantly decided I shouldn't go to the Inman Connect Event that starts tomorrow in New York.  Then, today, I was watching the twitter stream of the goings-on at REBARCAMP - which was scheduled for the day before the start of Inman (at the same hotel).  As I saw pictures of friends I've met at previous conferences, online friends I've been wanting to meet, and quotes from speakers talking about subjects I like, I decided I just had … (8 comments)

twitter: "Only a few people in my town are on Twitter". - 12/16/08 08:27 AM
I realize I'm risking typecasting myself as a "Twitter fanatic" by posting this, but oh well -- I am, so here it is...
A blogging friend informed me they signed up for Twitter, but only saw a few people from their area on TwitterLocal "worth following".  She further clarified that even those people weren't talking about anything even remotely related to her or real estate.  As I wrote out my response, I decided it might also be a helpful blog post.
Hi ________,
Good for you for signing up!!! What's your "handle"?
Twitter is like a party. As far as … (23 comments)

twitter: "Have you done any business because of Twitter?" - 12/09/08 02:23 AM
I recently received a comment on one of my other blog posts about Twitter and because of my lengthy response -- I decided to make it a post instead.  The comment was as follows:
I still don't get it.  I know Jason Crouch uses Twitter, so it must be a good thing.  However, when I finally took a look around, it seemed to me like a chat room on steroids.  :)
My time is limited.  I guess the key question is: Are you getting any business from Twitter?
Respectfully,
Bruce
Here is my response:
Hi Bruce,
That's a great question - … (18 comments)

twitter: Overheard on Twitter: "I'll make you famous" - 12/03/08 05:27 AM

I often reference AskDaveTaylor.com whenever I have a tech-question, and he usually has the answer.  (When he doesn't I can sometimes ask, and get it answered.  For that reason, I also follow him on Twitter. (@DaveTaylor)
Earlier today, I ran across an interesting tweet from him. In essence, he had a fun little contest and he promised to recommend that his follwers follow the winner.  (OK, I should disclose that he DIDN'T promise he'd make anyone famous (or even imply any additional followers would result from his recommendation, but I thought it was a catchy title.)
Over the next … (8 comments)

twitter: "I Just Don't Get Twitter" (Part 3 of 3) - 12/02/08 05:08 PM
Ok, Time for the final part of "Joel's ADHD Guide to watching lots of different Twitter Conversations at once."
If you haven't read part I or part II, I suggest doing so before reading this post.
This last section is what I call the "Just For Fun" section. Click here to view live conversations going on right now about the things I'm talking about below.  The idea here is to keep twitter fun by talking with people who have similar interests (regardless of where they live).  You never know -- Depending on the interests you share, and how unique they are, … (5 comments)

twitter: "I Just Don't Get Twitter" Part 2 - 12/02/08 04:19 AM
Twitter Part 2 of 3: Tapping into conversations with the locals.
Here is Part 1 if you missed it.
This is probably the easiest way to jump in and start engaging in conversation with people who live in your area, or who are talking about your area.  I've included various local searches for the sake of demonstration.  (Now in this case, I used Denver as an example, but you can easily change the searches to fit your local area. Once you change the search, you can bookmark that url for future reference.  You'll get the idea.)

twitter: "I Just Don't Get Twitter" - 12/01/08 03:12 AM
I've got several friends who have tried out Twitter after I bugged them enough, but for the most part, they're still just not getting it.  If you're in that camp, I understand. I didn't "get it" at first either...  However, I'm guessing that's because most of your tweets are announcements about whether or not you chose to super-size your value meal, or what time you woke up this morning.  Furthermore -- you're probably only following a small handful of people who you already know, and they don't yet get it either.  Don't get me wrong -- those kind of tweets are … (97 comments)

twitter: A Sneak Peek on How Some Top Twitterers Tweet - 11/21/08 03:33 AM
I was about to post a reply to someone who had commented on an earlier post about Twitter, and decided it should be a blog post instead.  In a nutshell, someone commented with: "Thanks for the tips.  I'll check into Twitter after I learn more about Active Rain."
Although I admire your discipline to not bite off more than you can chew -- in this case -- I think Twitter & AR go hand in hand. From my experience, checking out Twitter will help with your AR learning curve - not hinder it.  If I didn't start surrounding myself (via … (16 comments)

twitter: I learned everything I need to know about Social Media on Twitter - 11/14/08 05:12 AM

I've been on Twitter for several months now, and as my list of followers keeps growing, I occasionally get asked "How do you get so many followers?"  It's a bit hard to explain in 140 characters (the limit on Twitter), so I kept saying I'd write a post about it some day...  Now that I've got an Active Rain account, I figured I'd make my experience with Twitter my inaugural post.
I have a SEO/Business coach, and he has been telling me for about a year that I need to get into Social Media, and I kept putting it off.  … (81 comments)
