Many people are currently renting with the hopes of building credit and buying a home sometime in the near future.  Its important to make your rental payments on time especially if you live in a large rental community that is managed by a management company. 
These types of communities are expected to start reporting to the credit agencies in the near future and late payments will show up on your credit report.

I have noticed that many people who have weak credit seem to think that it is beyond their control to make it better.  The good thing about credit is that there are things you can do to improve it and you don't even have to go to a credit counselor.

Don't be discouraged by recent news events and what you hear around town.  Financing is available.  Every situation is different and banks are in the business to make loans.  Yes, you need good credit, etc. but don't just assume if you have some credit issues you don't qualify to get a loan.  Contact your lender or mortgage advisor and find out exactly what you need and take the steps to secure your financing. You might be surprised.
