Surprisingly even in a slow market you still see homeowners trying to sell their home on their own. I guess some of these property owners are forced to go this route because they are just about upside down and can't pay a professional Realtor to do it for them but I am sure many are just trying to save some money, but will they?
The answer is most of the time they will lose money. Only about 9% of property owners are electing to give this a try these days with most of those hiring a Realtor after they get no results.

Selling your property is really just a matter of doing the correct things from the start.  When these things are done the property sells.  Thats why you see some properties on the market for 3 months and others on the market for 3 years.  Obviously the one on the market for 3 years could be doing something better.  Now it may not be easy doing the things that need to be done like painting the kitchen or adjusting the price to current market conditions but its the seller who has alot of control as to when the property will sell.

There are many obstacles to getting a piece of property sold these days. Such things as low appraisals, tight money and nervous buyers. These things tend to slow everything down and cause alot of stress for the sellers and all involved in the deal.
The bottom line is that properties are selling everyday and with the correct frame of mind most things can be worked out.  If the seller wants to sell and the buyer wants to buy everything is possible.
