Holiday up next: Valentines Day! Have a sweet time in Olde Town Arvada on February 4, at the 10th annual Chocolate Affair, a benefit for the Ralston House.
From 11:00 until 3:00, chocolate takes the spotlight in *events like:
Taste of Chocolate - Drop by the D-Note Restaurant, on Grandview, and DiCicco's Banquet Room, on Olde Wadsworth Blvd. between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM for delicious samples of chocolate. I've been to breweries before, that were basically a restaurant that served their own beers. So it was a pleasant surprise when I stopped in at Arvada Beer Company a couple of days ago, to find a unique place sure to become a well-loved favorite hangout for locals.
The owner, Cary Floyd, took a few minutes to chat with me, and tell me about their fun venue.

Olde Town Arvada is fun year-round, but summer time is my favorite, and one thing I always look forward to is Flicks in the Square.

In the past few months, Olde Town Arvada has gotten a couple of new restaurants. I made the sacrifice of trying out The Archive Room for you, and I must say everyone at my table was quite happy with the food, service, atmosphere, and prices. It has a sports bar feel because of all the televisions, but is cozy at the same time.
We went on a cold, snowy evening in December and got a window seat. It was fun watching people hurry past, all bundled

My first day spa experience was last weekend at Oasis Day Spa in Arvada. (My daughter thought last weekend was Mother's Day, so I got my gift early!)
What a lovely place!
My first thought while enjoying the soothing decor was, "Places like this must be why women live longer!"
My daughter and I had a great time getting spoiled, but I have to say just as we were about to leave a man came in, his wife had given him a pedicure for a birthday present. Of course, lots of men go to Oasis Day Spa for massages too.

Olde Town Arvada. What a great place to just hang out and enjoy Colorado summers.
McIlvoy Park is host to Arvada's Free Summer Concert Series, both the family-friendly Thursday evening lineup and the Children's Friday morning series.
Thursday nights, 7:00 to 8:30, folks bring a picnic supper and chairs or blankets (no alcoholic beverages, please).
101st Army Band - June 30 The Spin (Variety) - July 7 Network (Blues and Soul) - July 14 The ReJuveniles (60s Rock) - July 21
Friday mornings, from 9:30 to 10:15. There is no covered shelter for shade, so plan accordingly.

If you read my posts very often, you know I love Arvada, and really enjoy our Olde Town. Now, Olde Town Arvada is one of the 10 finalists in the Live Work Play competition.
Please vote for Olde Town Arvada, she deserves to win this competition. Yes, some of the other finalists are snazzy, cool, and fun too. But Olde Town Arvada is a real hometown community that's been around for thousands of years (OK - just a little exaggeration there!). There's something special about that kind of history.

If you’re looking for something sweet to do for Valentine’s Day, come to Arvada, Colorado (a cool little town between Denver and Boulder) for A Chocolate Affair.
I just want to do a quick update on my previous Chocolate Affair post. This is an event a lot of people look forward to, and it's fun to get out and see your neighbors enjoying themselves in Olde Town. 2011's event is Saturday, February 5 from 11 am to 3 pm.

Have you heard of Lagniappe? (Pronounced lawn-yahp)
Once a year, Olde Town Arvada businesses thank their loyal customers with small gifts. Some merchants will give a small token to anyone who stops in, such as cookies or hot chocolate. Some merchants will give small gifts with a purchase.
I looked up the word, 'lagniappe', and it has roots in French, Spanish and Creole tradition. Mark Twain wrote about this word in 'Life on the Mississippi'. Mr. Twain said it's pronounced 'lanny-yap', though.

It seems there's always a lot going on in Olde Town Arvada, and Halloween is no exception!
Don't miss Trick or Treat Street - On Friday night, October 29 from 6 pm to 8 pm bring the whole family to Olde Town for trick-or-treating from local merchants, hay rides, a costume contest, and other kids activities in Olde Town Square.
Tickets are $2 per person or $5 per family. Tickets can be purchased by calling 303-420-6100. Or, purchase from the booth in Olde Town Square once you arrive.

olde town arvada: Your Pets can Trick or Treat in Olde Town Arvada on Halloween! - 10/25/10 10:59 AM
People in Colorado love, love, love their pets so I figure this will be a very popular event - Paws ‘n’ Play is sponsoring the 5th annual Howl-oween in Olde Town Arvada.
On Halloween Day, from 2:00 to 4:30 costumed pets and their people will stroll through Olde Town Arvada, getting tasty, healthy treats from local merchants. At 3:00 everyone will gather in the Square at 57th and 'old' Wadsworth for the costume contest judging and a pet tricks contest.

Starting at 10 am and up until 4 pm today Arvada residents can take your used turkey-frying oil to two locations in Arvada for recycling.
Indiana Service Center: 6701 Indiana StWadsworth City Shops: 6161 Olde Wadsworth Blvd
City staff will be there to help you empty your containers of used vegetable oil / grease into barrels provided by Rocky Mountain Sustainable Enterprises. Please take your empty containers with you after they are emptied. The event closes promptly at 4:00 at both locations.
Rocky Mountain Sustainable Enterprises refines the oil into biofuels and agricultural products.
