real estate agent: What's Blooming Now - October Between Denver and Boulder - 10/03/11 05:39 PM
I have to admit up front, usually by now we've had at least one hard frost, usually have even had snow. So all the more tender plants are dead and then we have a few more weeks of summer-like temperatures. I've always wondered, how many bloomers would I still have if I could have just gotten them through the few nights of freezing temps? Well this year we've had none of that nonsense, so I can just look around and see the answer to my question. And the answer is - a LOT!! I love it! In normal years the mums

real estate agent: Arvada's Pomona Lakes Neighborhood - Between Denver and Boulder - - 06/03/11 09:46 AM
Pomona Lakes - an established neighborhood in the north eastern quadrant of Arvada, Colorado, in Jefferson County. Featuring parks, playgrounds, trails, wide, curvy streets and sidewalks, churches and shops. There actually is a 3-acre lake called Pomona. It is one of a number of nearby lakes, and residents enjoy walking its perimeter on a paved walking trail, or fishing, or sitting on a bench and enjoying watching the ducks and geese. You'll meet lots of neighbors with dogs or on bicycles too (that's my little beagle Daphne, in the photo). The neighborhood also enjoys three parks and many nearby stores, restaurants,

real estate agent: About Arvada Restaurants - The Archive Room - 06/03/11 01:58 AM
In the past few months, Olde Town Arvada has gotten a couple of new restaurants. I made the sacrifice of trying out The Archive Room for you, and I must say everyone at my table was quite happy with the food, service, atmosphere, and prices. It has a sports bar feel because of all the televisions, but is cozy at the same time. We went on a cold, snowy evening in December and got a window seat. It was fun watching people hurry past, all bundled up and with their arms full of gifts. I’ll try to check out

real estate agent: How Much Does It Cost to Sell Your Colorado Home? - 06/03/11 01:46 AM
Everyone wants to know the bottom line when selling their home, what price to list at is only the first question. One cost is the real estate agent's commission. It is true that there is no 'set' fee, but keep in mind that a big part of an agent's job is attracting other agents to bring their clients to see your house. Buyer's agents expect a certain portion of the listing agent's commission to be paid out to them. It is stated in the MLS exactly how much each seller's agent is offering the buyer agents. So, when negotiating a fee

real estate agent: Old Towne Arvada CO - Scrumptious Ice Cream and Candy Shop Between Denver and Boulder - 06/03/11 01:40 AM
7523 Grandview in Arvada Colorado is home of the new and 'happening' Scrumptious Ice Cream and Candy Shop We visited Scrumptious on a recent Saturday, and it was a busy spot. Nice to see all the people stopping by, getting a treat. I've heard about this new ice cream shop, and if that's all it was it would be worth a visit. The ice cream is all made on the premises. But the store is also well-stocked with old time favorite candies and sodas. One thing you hear people say over and over again is, "Wow! I haven't

real estate agent: About Arvada - Neighborhoods, Stores, Things to Do, Local Info - 06/03/11 01:31 AM
Life in Arvada is the subject of several posts I've written on neighborhoods, merchants and stores, things to do, and other local info, with the hope of helping those trying to get a feel for life here. So I collected all those posts here. The idea was to keep it maintained, adding posts as I generate them. However, I have more than one blog now, so maintaining this post has become burdensome. I am maintaining the other version of this post on my blog, HomesDenvertoBoulder.com. Please read About Arvada Life via my other post, it will be more up to date!

real estate agent: Avoiding Foreclosure with a Short Sale - Here's the Questions I'll Need Answered - 06/03/11 01:20 AM
If you're in danger of losing your house to foreclosure, and you want to try to do a short sale instead, I know you have a lot of questions. When I sit down with people to discuss the short sale process, their questions and concerns take center stage over the information I need to get from them. The whole process is so emotionally draining, it would be a great help if the following questions were answered, and info gathered before I arrive. That way, we don't have to spend time going over all this, but I

real estate agent: If Price is all That Really Matters, What Do I Need You For? - 06/03/11 01:01 AM
I read a lot of blog posts written by real estate agents pontificating on how important it is to correctly price a home for sale. And they are right. Let's be honest - any house will sell at SOME price, right? I have a habit, when considering a point, to think what it must sound like to those in the opposing camp. So I can imagine members of the public thinking, "If price is all that matters, what do I need you for?" In this case, there's a pretty good answer to the question. First we have to acknowledge that the

Joetta’s Neighborhood Newsletter May, 2011 Hello, Friends & Neighbors! Things are definitely picking up in real estate – lots of people asking for an idea how much their house would sell for, advice on preparing it for today’s market, and buyers working on getting all ready to buy a new home. I have a townhouse and a condo for sale, and a couple of houses coming up. If you’re thinking about putting your house on the market, now’s the time! The other news for me, is that I am switching offices. I’ve been with Gary DiGiorgio for

real estate agent: Colorado Gardens - What's Blooming Now - 05/09/11 11:58 PM
In the gardens between Denver and Boulder early spring flowers have faded, yet summer's glory won't be in full bloom for a month. I dislike having a lull in the blooming, so I've worked hard to incorporate flowers that will bloom now, in the 'tween season. Here's some reliable bloomers for high plains gardens, all perennials that require little work. Daphne, Carol Macke. Tiny, incredibly sweet-scented blooms. Sweet William. A spreading ground cover that greens up before the grass. Bleeding Heart. The favorite of many, she loves the shade.

real estate agent: High Plains Gardeners - Put Tender Plants in the Ground This Weekend - 05/07/11 11:21 AM
High plains gardeners have many traditions, like gardeners in other parts of the world do. One high plains gardening tradition is that Mother's Day is the time to put in those tender plants like tomatoes and peppers. That's why I figured this weekend would be crazy at the garden center, and I tried to get out to buy my plants before the Mother's Day weekend arrived. Alas, I didn't make it out to O'Tooles until Friday evening, and the crowds were already there, hotly pursuing the plants they just had to have. I'm sure many of them were for Mother's

real estate agent: Spoil Mom at Oasis Day Spa in Arvada - 05/06/11 10:09 PM
My first day spa experience was last weekend at Oasis Day Spa in Arvada. (My daughter thought last weekend was Mother's Day, so I got my gift early!) What a lovely place! My first thought while enjoying the soothing decor was, "Places like this must be why women live longer!" My daughter and I had a great time getting spoiled, but I have to say just as we were about to leave a man came in, his wife had given him a pedicure for a birthday present. Of course, lots of men go to Oasis Day Spa for massages too.

real estate agent: As Funds for Colorado Schools Drop, Support Teachers is Desperately Needed - 05/04/11 09:23 PM
Colorado, like most states, is having a tough time making ends meet, forcing difficult decisions. Anyone who's been paying even the slightest attention knows large cuts were made to our schools. I don't have school-aged kids any more, but I do know a lot of wonderful folks who live or teach in Arvada. So it feels quite personal to hear about the sacrifices these dedicated, generous people make. So I was happy to read a Letter to the Editor in the Arvada Press dated April 21, 2011 about www.DonorsChoose.org. DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone

real estate agent: Idea Book for Vintage Arvada Homes - 05/03/11 11:17 PM
If you live in one of Arvada's neighborhoods born in the era of WWII, you probably know that a lot of 'remodeling' has been done to the homes there over time. Not all of it good. The City of Arvada, in partnership with Historic Denver, Inc. and graduate architectural students at the University of Colorado has been working on a couple of pattern books for remodeling pre-war and post-war era homes in Arvada, and now one of them has been released. Pattern and Design Idea Book for Post-War Homes is yours with a click, the book for pre-war era homes will

real estate agent: Women and Travel - Visit Tattered Passport - 05/02/11 12:05 PM
My life here between Denver and Boulder is blessed with several truly wonderful friends, and one of my Arvada buddies is Dee Harwick. (Yes, even a real estate agent can have time for friends!) My husband and I have been great friends with Dee and her husband Kerry, for a number of years. Sadly, Kerry passed away, leaving all of us feeling lost and full of grief. One of the dreams Dee and Kerry shared, was to travel. What now, we wondered - would Dee have to give up that dream, or travel alone? This post isn't about Dee's journey of
