things to do colorado: Colorado Balloon Festival - Snowmass - 01/22/12 11:31 AM
My hubby and I went to our first hot air balloon festival, after many years of wanting to attend one. It was nice to find one so close to home ('home' is the town of Arvada, about midway between Denver and Boulder), so we could go on the spur of the moment. It was the Snowmass Balloon Festival. (Snowmass is just outside of Aspen.) on September 16-18, 2011, so we also got to enjoy autumn's colorful show of changing aspen leaves. The photo below is from a night-time event, where the balloons are lit up by the flames that create the hot

things to do colorado: Lion and Tigers and Bears ... in Colorado! - 09/05/11 08:02 PM
Yesterday the hubby and I took a quick trip to the northeast of Denver for our first visit to The Wild Animal Sanctuary. It was an amazing experience, I'm so glad we finally 'discovered' this place after living in Arvada for so many years. There are hundreds of lions, tigers, bears, servals, cougar, wolves, and more. I found www.WildAnimalSanctuary.org when I searched for 'Things to do in Colorado'. I noticed the recommendation to visit in the evening, especially when they are cooling off from summer's heat. So that's what we did. Arriving about 5:30, we stayed until the Sanctuary closed at

This Victorian town is situated in a rugged

things to do colorado: Adam's Mystery Playhouse, Things to do between Denver and Boulder - 08/13/10 03:14 PM
Finally - I got to go to a Mystery Dinner! I've wanted to for a long time, couldn't get the hubby on board. Then, he won an award at work and all the winners were treated to a Mystery Dinner at Adam's Mystery Playhouse. Click on the link for reviews, details, menu, etc. It was a gorgeous Colorado spring day, so the place didn't look too ominous from the outside, despite the owner's best efforts. But inside there was lots of creepy and bizarre things to look at. The characters who were part of the mystery itself were staff, so the

things to do colorado: Johnson's Corner - things to do between Denver and Boulder - 08/12/10 03:14 PM
We had heard about the famous Johnson's Corner cinnamon rolls for years, and finally made the trip a couple of weeks ago. Let me tell you it's not just about cinnamon rolls, they have an award-winning breakfast. Please click the link above to read all about their story, I'll just tell you it opened in 1952 as a truck stop in the middle of farmland, and since then has been featured in a Bill Murray movie and has been mentioned by the US House of Representatives. Johnson's Corner is so famous, it's a shame for any Coloradan not to

things to do colorado: Hiking Eldorado Canyon - things to do between Denver and Boulder - 08/11/10 02:03 PM
Hiking is one of the popular activities to those of us blessed to live in the gorgeous area between Denver and Boulder. Of course, many people backpack and camp, but day hikes are an easier alternative for most people's schedule and athletic ability. One popular spot is Eldorado Canyon. Easy to get to, and has all the beauty we expect to see in Colorado's mountain region. (Click the link for directions, more photos, trail maps, etc.) The parking lot has some potties and picnic tables. There were quite a lot of people hanging out here the day we visited. Just off

things to do colorado: The Boulder Dushanbe Tea House - things to do between Denver and Boulder - 08/10/10 02:39 PM
Boulder Dushanbe Tea House is a sight to behold. Enjoying a meal there, or even just a cup of tea, is like being transported to another country. Please click the link above to read the story of the incredible Boulder Dushanbe Tea House, but I'll whet your appetite by telling you that 40 artisans created hand-carved and hand-painted ceiling, tables, stools, columns, and exterior in cities throughout Kajikistan, then the tea house was re-assembled in Boulder. I went with my daughter, sister-in-law, and niece. We all loved our food and our teas. It was a lovely drive to Boulder from Arvada,

things to do colorado: Film on the Rocks at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison CO - 08/09/10 03:58 PM
Summer is on the wane, and I haven't written all the posts I wanted to about things to do between Denver and Boulder. I CAN'T let you miss out on visiting Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison CO. One of my favorite things is to visit Red Rocks Amphitheater for any reason at all. We take out of town guests when there isn't even anything going on. We're never alone, it's a favorite local spot for hanging out, picniking, hiking and biking, and imagining yourself onstage in front of a huge crowd. Sometimes you actually get a spontaneous show of one kind
