Sacramento Real Estate Market -- Bulls, Bears, and Shapeshifters - 08/19/07 02:44 PM
Back in the early stages of the nationwide and Sacramento real estate market correction (or, depending on your point of view:  "downturn", "collapse", or "debacle"), a few of the folks who read the bubble blogs chided me for being too bullish on the market.  At the time I argued with some success that I wasn't being bullish, I just wasn't joining them in the bubble-bear's picnic (much as I enjoyed the song of a similar name).
What I did at the time, and what I still do, is publish the numbers.  When the numbers drop, I said they dropped (whereas a … (5 comments)

Coming Soon -- A New Place to Post Listings - 08/03/07 11:30 PM
I recently posed the question about whether the real estate industry needs another social networking web site, and got only one yes vote, from a colleague in Albuquerque.
I can understand the concern. On some level I agree with those who said we really don't need such a site.
First of all, how many blogs can you have? I try to make a consistent and meaningful contribution to this one, but I have three or four others that I'm either a main author or co-author on, and really one is plenty.
Secondly, I'm sure that from the point of view … (3 comments)

Does the World Need Another Real Estate Network? - 08/02/07 10:27 PM
I've been digging a lot into real estate social networks recently, and also looking into open source software to run such a network.
There are already several such networks making their way in the world. ActiveRain is probably the most popular, but other sites that have beaten the one I haven't done yet through the gate include RealEstateWebmasters (which didn't really start out as a social network, but has started to grow in that direction) and WannaNetwork.

Referrals Link - 08/01/07 09:00 PM
This is my (who asked you! :) feedback on the referrals link. First of all, I admire the founders for finally doing something to monetize the Realtors(r) here, and I think they did it the smart way by doing it free for a long time, to build up a user base.
However, as a feature goes, to be honest, it looks a little complicated from the point of view of handing off a referral.  When I have an outbound referral, I usually just Google the place name, find a few names, then try to reach someone who's active as a webmaster -- … (4 comments)

Just Doing Some Head Scratching - 08/01/07 07:13 PM
Laurie Mindnich was nice enough to ask where the heck I was recently, and I told her I was on vacation.
Well, that was last week, and this week that's no longer where I am.  This week I'm just out of phase with ActiveRain, and not writing anything much.
To think that a mere two weeks ago, I was racking up points with the best of them.
This week I'm trying to get my head back around social networks, and doing all kinds of low tech things, like cleaning off my desk, shoveling pea gravel and dieting.
A guy knocked on my door today, and … (4 comments)

Where'd My Anaheim Pictures Go? - 08/01/07 07:12 PM
I had posted quite a few pictures from my recent Disney trip to Anaheim recently.  Granted, some of them were pertty lame, but a lot of them were only as lame as some of Brad Andersohn's lame Disney / Anaheim photos.  Clearly someone flagged the lot of them and removed them for some reason.
Maybe they were too big.
Maybe Donald Duck did it.  He always had it out for Mickey Mouse.
Here's one of the offendending photos now.

This is my motivational coach.
If you know where the rest of the photos went, drop me a note.
