I recently posed the question about whether the real estate industry needs another social networking web site, and got only one yes vote, from a colleague in Albuquerque.
I can understand the concern. On some level I agree with those who said we really don't need such a site.
First of all, how many blogs can you have? I try to make a consistent and meaningful contribution to this one, but I have three or four others that I'm either a main author or co-author on, and really one is plenty.

There's a perennial debate there, usually in non-public ("members only") posts, as to whether Realtors should be allowed to post listings so our colleagues can see them. I'm continuing my mission of having my company's sellers' listings published in as many places as possible. With this in mind, I've recently added a vFlyer widget to my Amador and El Dorado County Real Estate blog. I've added the same widget to my Sacramento Real Estate Blog, replacing the animated iHomefinder widget I formerly had there (see the widget at right -- that's the iHomefinder dingus.
ActiveRain's Stephanie Edwards-Musa has put together an awesome list of online places where you can advertise your listings. I've started grappling with some of the sites on the list and some other sites.

listings: How My vFlyer Account is Doing, By Source - 06/18/07 04:07 PM
I've been publishing a lot of vFlyers lately to various places. It's interesting to me to see where the activity comes from.
The big producer is ActiveRain at 36% percent of the views, however my two independent blogs combined outweigh it at a a total of 49%. Google's classified ads system only accounts for 4%.
Unfortunately, one of the key features of vFlyers -- that they automatically publish your flyer to various online destinations -- isn't well represented in these numbers. Most of the traffic stems from some sort of other independent effort on my part. vFlyer doesn't track … (3 comments)

I'm hoping that my Featured Listings Widget over on the right isn't preventing me from getting points just by virtue of being on any new page I publish. Last week just before I hit my ten post maximum and had to be drive home by my designated driver, I had just learned about the rule that you're not supposed to post about one aspect of real estate, the real estate aspect. The other day I was trying to post a listing on ActiveRain. I'd just put the listing into vFlyer and was going to post the HTML that vFlyer recommends here to get it some exposure. (vFlyer does a pretty good job of easily and neatly laying out an HTML flyer).
Posting the listing happened pretty easily, but then I noticed I wasn't getting points for it. I tried including it in a group specifically about promoting one's listings, and that didn't matter.
I had read the other day that listings weren't being featured on localism, but I hadn't known they weren't getting … (5 comments)
