Recently here in Ocean County NJ, we had one of the largest snow falls in the last few years. So I thought this would be a good time to talk about a sometimes overlooked maintenance procedure. We all dread having to go out and shovel our steps, walks, and driveways. But what about your home's perimeter? All too often we forget about the exterior of our homes. Heavy snow accumulation along with snow drifts, will sometimes extend above the siding level. This can lead to leakage into the basement and crawl space. As well as leakage under the siding, leading to water damaged sheathing, sub flooring, etc. On The Level Home Inspections recommends that after you clean off your cars, shovel your steps, walks, and driveways, you talk a quick walk around your home's perimeter. Shovel out the snow which is up against your foundation walls and siding. Hopefully this will reduce the risk of water damage to your home. If you have any questions regarding home maintenance, give me a call to schedule a maintenance inspection.
