Seguin - A Beacon of Shining Light on the Coast of Maine - 08/28/07 04:55 PM

Anybody who has traveled to Maine knows of the rocky shoreline that characterizes our coast, specifically the mid coast Maine region.  Being an avid boater, with a dream of selling real estate via motor boat, a recent trip to Sequin pictured here and located at the mouth of the Kennebec River has been guiding ships safely since its commission in 1795.  No longer manned year round, the Friends of Seguin have done a wonderful job preserving this treasure, the highest lighthouse in Maine at 186 feet above sea level.  During the summer months, caretackers live on the island and are always welcoming of any … (1 comments)

Sailing in Phippsburg Maine. - 08/06/07 09:42 AM

Up here in Maine the summer lasts about 8 weeks in a good year, so within this short window of time one has a limited hours to enjoy the outdoors.  What do I do? I sail, both for pleasure and for competition.   Specifically in Phippsburg Maine, a wonderful peninsula to spend summers on as well as winters for the rugged.  A rural town, with a population of approximately 2000 year round that balloons to 5000-6000 in the summer. Waterfront property can still be found as low as 500K and with Popham Beach State Park offering a 2 mile sandy beach to enjoy as long … (2 comments)

Southern Maine June 2007 Housing Statistics - 08/02/07 06:05 AM
Alas it seems the spring housing market slump continues to effect Maine as it does the rest of the nation.  Housing transactions were off about 18% for the 2nd month in a row for the 4 counties I follow, Cumberland, York, Sagadahoc and Lincoln.  Total transaction volume for southern Maine property was off by about 200 units and things don't seem to be pointing towards any sort of improvement.  The for sale signs continue to pile up and price reduction after price reduction seem to be the norm.  Average prices for the month of June were down in all the counties except for York where 10 homes that sold for over … (0 comments)
