The regulator of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is proposing that the two government-controlled enterprises increase their purchases of loans secured by manufactured housing and rural properties. Our government is pushing us right back into lending practices that got us into trouble in the first place.  Now that these two wholly owned government entities have unlimited funds from the taxpayers they are branching out again into poor investment decisions.  Manufactured housing, specifically mobile homes have traditionally been poor investments.  It's kind of like buying a car, once you roll it off the lot the value starts going down.  In my opinion, the needs of underserved, low income areas could be met with traditional stick houses.   Forcing lenders to make loans on mobile homes may make our housing figures look better, which is  is why the government is currently pushing this agenda now but is it a good long term strategy?
