Father-Son Courses Honor Lineage of "First Family" of Golf Course Architecture

Among their many other distinctions, Golden Horseshoe's Gold and Green Courses are the

first examples of side-by-side father-son designs in the United States.

It is impossible to overstate the global influence of Robert Trent Jones Sr. on golf course

architecture and, by extension, the game itself - a tradition extended by son Rees at Colonial

Williamsburg's Golden Horseshoe Golf Club.

At his death in June 2000, the elder Jones had been credited with the design of some 350

courses in 45 states and 35 countries. Besides generating some of the best-known and most pivotal

golf course architecture in the world, his office provided apprenticeship to any number of today's

most-talented practitioners, Rees included; and his enduring design esthetic has served as the

prototype for innumerable subsequent projects by those acquainted only with his work.

In September 2000, the Gold Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club was voted by the

editors of Golf Digest as among Jones Sr.'s "six must-play masterpieces." (The others are

Ballybunion, in Ireland; Valderrama, in Spain; The Dunes, in Myrtle Beach; Mauna Kea, in Hawaii;

and Spyglass Hill, in Pebble Beach.)

Rees Jones began his career in golf course architecture in his father's office, in 1964 and has

since designed or redesigned more than 100 courses, many of them household names among golfers.

Having opened his own office in 1974, Rees's reputation has continued to soar, and in 1995 he was

named "Architect of the Year" by Golf World. Four of his new or significantly remodeled designs

appear on Golf Digest's 2005 - 2006 listing of America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses; six appear on

GOLF Magazine's 2005 Top 100 Courses in the World, and 12 on the magazine's list of Top 100

Courses in the United States.

Rees's capacity for the adept and respectful remodeling and redesign of existing classic

layouts has earned him the mantle, previously bestowed upon his father, of "Open doctor," the

architect retained to prepare courses for United States Golf Association championships. These skills

were very much in evidence when, having completed the Green Course at Golden Horseshoe in

1991, he was commissioned in 1998 to rework Jones Sr.'s design for the Gold Course. The redesign

remains faithful to the original but, in keeping with golf's burgeoning popularity, expands its appeal

to higher-handicap players while simultaneously lengthening the course from the back tees.

THE MUSEUMS OF COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG OFFER BROAD

VARIETY OF EXPERIENCES FOR MUSEUM GUESTS

The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation operates three world-class museums whose

collections enhance and enrich the guest experience beyond the living history of the Historic Area.

In 2008, a yearlong exhibition of extraordinarily rare and prized Revolutionary War battle flags is a

highlight of the guest experience in the Museums of Colonial Williamsburg.

The award-winning DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum houses the Foundation's

renowned collection of British and American decorative arts dating from 1600 through 1830. These

include the world's largest collection of Virginia furniture; one of the largest collections of

Southern, British and American furniture; and the largest collection of English pottery outside

England. Masterworks and period pieces acquired for Colonial Williamsburg's Historic Area

exhibition buildings bolster the museum's holdings in furniture, metals, ceramics, glass, paintings,

prints, maps and textiles.

The DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum, opened in 1985, features 15 galleries in

27,500 square feet of exhibition space as well as an auditorium and a café. Entrance is through the

Public Hospital of 1773 on Francis Street between Nassau and South Henry streets. The museum is

open daily; hours vary seasonally. Call (757) 220-7724 for information.

The award-winning Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum-the oldest institution in

the United States dedicated solely to the collection and preservation of American folk art-reopened

in February 2007 in new quarters adjacent to the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum.

Exhibits feature paintings, whirligigs, weather vanes, carvings, toys, embroideries and other folk

works representing many diverse cultural traditions and geographic regions. John D. Rockefeller Jr.

established the museum in 1957 in honor of his wife, Abby, and her love of folk art. Mrs.

Rockefeller gave the core collection of 424 objects to The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in

1939. Today the collection of thousands of objects includes items dating from the 1720s to the

present shown in 11 galleries constituting 10,400 square feet of exhibition space. The museum is

open daily and hours of operation vary seasonally. Call (757) 220-7724 for program information.

Bassett Hall, a two-story, 18th-century frame house on 585 acres (including woodlands) near

the colonial Capitol building, was the Williamsburg home of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Rockefeller Jr.

In addition to the main house, the property includes a teahouse and three original outbuildings-a

smokehouse, kitchen and dairy-all of which were bequeathed to The Colonial Williamsburg

Foundation in 1979 by the Rockefeller family. The house reopened to the public in December 2002

following an extensive renovation that was funded by a generous gift of $2.7 million from Abby

O'Neill, granddaughter of John D. Rockefeller Jr., and her husband George.

As a result of the renovation, both the interiors and the grounds are much as they were when

the Rockefellers lived there during the mid 1930s and 1940s to oversee the restoration of the

Historic Area. Of particular note is Abby Aldrich Rockefeller's eclectic collection of 125 pieces of

folk art, including weather vanes, chalkware and American pottery-pieces that Mrs. Rockefeller

was among the first in the nation to collect.

Bassett Hall is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Wednesdays. Call toll-free

1 (800) HISTORY (1-800-447-8679) for information.

Admission to The Museums of Colonial Williamsburg is by any Colonial Williamsburg

admission ticket, single museum ticket or annual museum ticket.

For travelers seeking to immerse themselves in history, the Colonial Houses in the heart of Colonial

Williamsburg's Historic Area provide a unique lodging option within The Resort Collection of

Colonial Williamsburg. The Colonial Houses are scattered among taverns and shops and overlook

beautiful courtyards, charming gardens and Duke of Gloucester Street. The 28 Colonial Houses

comprise a total of 76 guest rooms furnished with authentically reproduced period furnishings and a

collection of antiques. Each Colonial House has a distinctive history and appeal of its own, offering

the opportunity to experience the restored 18th-century capital of Virginia. Guests of the Colonial

Houses can easily access some of the other Resort Collection amenities, including the recently opened

Spa of Colonial Williamsburg, the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club and dining options ranging from the

elegant Regency Room to the more experiential taverns located in the Historic Area. For more

information about The Spa of Colonial Williamsburg, please refer to the entry for the Williamsburg

Inn.

The Revolution at your Doorstep

Guests of the Colonial Houses not only reside within the protected Historic Area of Virginia's colonial

capital, but also live on the doorstep of the American Revolution! Just outside the door of these

unique lodgings, Revolutionary City® unfolds - this dynamic, two-hour street theater program

featuring three dozen actor-interpreters, daily brings the events of the American Revolution

realistically to life. Widely acclaimed since its debut last year, Revolutionary City is an engaging,

interactive portrayal of everyday colonial life against the backdrop of momentous world-changing

events from the collapse of the royal government to revolutionary citizens at war. And, just like those

residents, you can return to your "home" among the Colonial Houses to contemplate the events of the

day.

Tavern Ghost Walks

Employees of the Resort Collection of Colonial Williamsburg, including staff of the Colonial Houses,

have collected tales of ghost sightings and strange occurrences in and around the buildings of the

Historic Area. Each night, hour-long ghost walks allow guests to explore Virginia's most haunted

region and to hear the local legends of the supernatural. The tour stops at several haunted hotspots,

with stories about buildings right next door, across the street or down the block from the Colonial

Houses.

Colonial Williamsburg's Golden Horseshoe Golf Club is located in the

Tidewater region of Virginia, an hour's drive from Richmond or Norfolk, 150

miles south of Washington D.C., off interstate 64.

The Gold Course designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr., this is one the best examples

of traditional golf course architecture in the world. Opened in 1963, Jones Sr.

called the course his "finest design."

The 6,817-yard, par-71 course has a USGA slope rating of 144. The course

record of 67, posted by Jack Nicklaus in an exhibition match in September of

1967, still holds today. Marvin "Vinny" Giles set the amateur course record, 68,

prior to the 1999 Rees Jones course renovation. For the Golfweek/PING

Preview tournament in October 2006, the course was altered to a par 70 (No. 2

shortened to par 4) and on that reconfigured layout, Daniel Summerhays of

Brigham Young University shot a score of 60. During the NCAA Division I

Championship in June 2007, Michael Schachner of Duke University tied the

Summerhays course record in the third round, by shooting a 10-under-par 60.

The Green Course designed by "The Open Doctor" Rees Jones, Jones Sr.'s son, and

opened in 1991, this layout is carved from the same terrain as the Gold Course and is

more typical of contemporary trends in golf course architecture. It also stands

out as the first father-son tandem of side-by-side layouts.

The 7,120-yard, par-72 course has a USGA slope rating of 138.

The Spotswood Course named for Colonial Governor Alexander Spotswood, this is the elder Jones's

1963 update of the Williamsburg Inn's original 1947 nine-hole course.

The 1,865-yard, par-31 course includes one 470-yard par 5, two par 4s of 260

and 325 yards, and six par 3s ranging from 90 to 215 yards. The Spotswood

frequently serves as a warm-up for resort guests anticipating the full-scale test of

the Gold and Green Courses and is a perfect course for a family golf outing.

Green Fees: Green fees vary seasonally, ranging from $79 to $160.

A few of the events held here :NCAA Division I Men's Championship, May 2007, Gold.

* U.S. Kids Golf World Championship, July 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005,

Gold, Green, Spotswood.* U.S Women's Amateur Public Links Championship, June 2004, Green

* Virginia State Golf Association Senior Amateur Championship, August

2002, Green & Gold. * NCAA Eastern Regional Men's Semi-final Championship, 2001, Green.

* USGA Men's State Team Championship and the USGA Women's State

* USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship, 1998.

The course was recognized by Magazine as a Gold Medal Resort and Top 500 Golf Holes

Currently WBC offers the following programs and activities for members and residents of the area.

Moving to/ Relocating/ Retiring in Historic Williamsburg, Virginia.

With a rare combination of historic charm, fabulous entertainment and breathtaking natural beauty, Williamsburg is unlike any other city in America. Center stage for the birth of our nation, it forms a third of Virginia's "Historic Triangle," one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.

But while Williamsburg's celebrated history is an enormous draw, there's so much more. This highly accessible city is just a short drive from Virginia's capital city in Richmond, the major U.S. port of Newport News and popular oceanfront resort Virginia Beach. It also offers exclusive accommodations, fine dining, award-winning amusement parks, and exceptional shopping and golf. More than any other area in the country, Williamsburg offers the best of yesterday and today for an experience that truly has something for everyone.

Historical Importance

Of the many things for which Williamsburg is deservedly known, first and foremost is its rich history. The city's story begins in 1633, when English colonists founded the settlement that was soon to be Williamsburg. The city went on to become a major political, cultural and social center throughout the colonial era. It soon became an academic center, too, with the founding of the College of William and Mary. The college, established in 1693, is one of the oldest in the country, second only to Harvard University. Williamsburg also served as Virginia's state capital for a century, from 1699, when it was renamed in honor of William III, until Richmond was made capital in 1799.

Williamsburg's continued relevance in the modern era was assured in 1926, when it attracted the attention of John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Thanks to the billionaire philanthropist's desire to restore and preserve the city to its colonial era appearance, Williamsburg is today a world-renowned living museum of America's early history.

Accessibility

Williamsburg is highly accessible to a number of major Virginia cities. Richmond, the state's capital and one of its largest cities, is just 50 miles and less than an hour's drive away on I-64 West. Norfolk, a leading U.S. port and Virginia's second-largest city, is just 55 miles and an hour's drive away on I-64 East. Newport News is a half hour away along I-64 East, and major metropolitan area Northern Virginia is 150 miles and two and a half hours away via I-95 North.

Area Attractions

Historical Attractions

Colonial Williamsburg
America's largest living history museum, with more than 300 acres of homes, stores and taverns restored to their colonial era appearance.

Historic Jamestown
The site of the first permanent English settlement in North America, in 1607. Garnered worldwide attention throughout 2007 for its year-round celebration of America's 400th anniversary.

Historic Yorktown
An historic riverfront site on the York River. The scene of both the last battle of the American Revolution in October 1781 and a Civil War battle in 1862.

Berkeley Plantation
The most historic plantation on the James River and the birthplace of America's ninth president, William Henry Harrison.

Sherwood Forest Plantation
Home of John Tyler, tenth president of the United States.

Shirley Plantation
Southern plantation owned and operated by the eleventh generation of the Hill-Carter family, eyewitnesses to centuries of American history.

Riverwalk Landing
A beautiful waterfront development with a mile-long pedestrian river walk as well as fine shopping, dining, touring and entertainment.

Golfing

Williamsburg enjoys a growing reputation as one of America's premier golf destinations. The area offers more than a dozen courses designed by renowned names such as Arnold Palmer, Curtis Strange, Robert Trent Jones Sr., John LeFoy and Nicklaus Design Associates.

The Yorktown Fourth of July Celebration Committee is proud to announce the 29th Annual Independence Day Celebration in historic Yorktown, Virginia. Everyone is invited to join us in celebrating our nation's freedom in the place where the American forces defeated the British in the last major battle of the American Revolution, thereby assuring our country's independence.

This year's theme commemorates the "Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route (W3R)", the passage used by the French and American Forces in their journey from Newport, Rhode Island to Yorktown in 1781. An Arts & Crafts Fair; Classic Car Show; Children's Fun Center; Horse and Pony Rides; Traditional (red, white and blue) Parade; and, a Patriotic Concert, ending with a spectacular, music-enhanced, Fireworks Show, are only some of the many activities planned throughout the day. As always, we will continue to focus on our long-standing motto, "A Family Affair," and assure you of our commitment to the community to provide a high-quality, clean, safe, wholesome, family-oriented, daylong event celebrating the independence of this great nation.

The 29th annual Yorktown Fourth of July fireworks display over the York River will begin at 9:15 p.m. Organizers say the best viewing areas are along the Yorktown Waterfront and at the Yorktown Victory Monument. The Beach Picnic Area will be closed this year, as it is being used as the launch site for the fireworks show.

Visitors are urged to arrive in Yorktown no later than 6:30 p.m. Traffic volumes will ultimately cause Yorktown to reach its parking capacity, at which point the roads leading into the village - Cook Road and the Colonial Parkway - will be closed to incoming traffic.

Visitors arriving early for the fireworks will find the following activities:

River Course- The world renowned Pete Dye course that's home to the LPGA Michelob UNTRA OPEN

Pete Dye designed the River Course to challenge the accuracy and consistency of PGA Tour professionals, yet still be enjoyable for the average golfer.

The terrain is pure Virginia rolling hills, elevated greens, thick woods and water all around. To score well, you must hit accurate tee shots and approach the greens through the air, landing the ball with precision.

The River course measures 6,853 yards from the Championship tee's with a slope of 137.

$ 77.50 per golfer

Woods Course This lush Tom Clark/ Curtis Strange creation is a classic parkland style design.

Named by Golf Magazine a "Top Ten New Course You Can Play"

Two-time U.S. Open champion Curtis Strange and golf course architect Tom Clark combined forces to create a parkland-style golf course tucked away in its own private corner of the resort.

With deep menacing ravines, plenty of trees, and even a double green with a bunker in its center, the Woods Course provides a truly memorable round of golf.

The Woods course measures 6,784 yards from the Championship tee's with a slope of 131.

$65.00 per golfer

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

Plantation Course Landmarks from Richard Kingsmill's Plantation are woven into this Arnold Palmer Design

Golf legend Arnold Palmer teamed up with renowned golf course architect Ed Seay to create a slightly more forgiving version of The River Course to appeal to golfers of all abilities.

The Plantation Course is more wide open, less demanding of pinpoint accuracy, but it's certainly no pushover. At 6,543 yards, there is less emphasis on well-positioned drives than accurate and consistent iron play and perfect putting on the undulating greens. Water comes into play on eight of the 18 holes, and there is no shortage of deep woods or rolling terrain.

The Plantation Course is fun, challenging and meticulously maintained. Historical landmarks from a 1736 plantation are woven into the landscape.

The Plantation course measures 6,543 yards from the Championship tee's with a slope of 124.

For the first time in history, credit scores will be utilized in FHA lending. These important FHA guideline changes will become effective on July 1, 2008.

. Let's take a closer look at the ten primary changes to the FHA guidelines:

1. Borrowers with either no score or at least 500 may get an LTV >90%; see matrix below.
2. Borrowers with a score less than 500 get a maximum LTV of 90%.
3. Borrowers without scores will require manual underwriting.
4. Upfront Mortgage Insurance Premiums will range from 1.25% to 2.25%, depending on score.
5. The Monthly Mortgage Insurance will range from .50% to .55% depending on score.
6. The premium is based on the borrower with the lowest score.
7. If one of the borrowers has no score, then the Non-Traditional credit grade is used.
8. Credit rescoring is allowed to improve a borrower's credit grade.
9. All FHA Secure refinances >95% LTV with delinquencies have a 2.25% UFMIP and .55% MMI.
10. Along with purchases, these changes apply to cash-out, rate & term, and non-delinquent FHA Secure refinances.

FHA Single Family Mortgage Insurance

Upfront and Annual Mortgage Insurance Premiums

(Loan Terms > 15 years)

Effective as of July 14, 2008

All premiums are specified in basis points (0.01%)
