Be Thankful Challenge Day 9: Today I am thankful for inspiration.
After what happened to me last night at Dollar General, I am especially thankful for inspiration. Yesterday’s random act of kindness inspired me to really get out and get this food drive going. While I was out setting up a food drive display at the Riverside Bank, my managing broker made a trip to Dollar General to pick up some items for his donation. We purchased a home in Carolina Cove off of Thomas Lake Road in 1994 and quickly began attending the Thomas Lake Road Community Association monthly dinners. This is where I first met “Miss Minnie.”


Miss Minnie is one of those people who loves hugs and she always has something to give you!

Hats Off to Moms!

Mother’s Day in Riverside, Texas

At Riverside Baptist Church, the ladies always wear hats on Mother’s Day.

It all started when Ms. Ruby was battling cancer. She didn’t want to go to church with a bald head so the girls suggested that she wear a hat. That wasn’t going to work. She’d be the only one in a hat. So all of the ladies agreed to wear hats that day.


Years have passed and Ms. Ruby is now cancer free! But the hat tradition goes on. ☺

You can bet your boots that these young men were COLD in that water! But they took off anyway. Being able to wear flip flops and short sleeves in December and January is one of the many things I love about Texas.  The HOT summers more than make up for being blessed with a mild winter, but like most Texans... I'll take hot over snow ANY day!

Today I am thankful for where I live.

I live in a VERY small town. ☺ When a house catches on fire, everyone knows it. They are out hunting down a place for you to live, furniture to put in it, and food to put on the table.
 
 

 
 
When someone walks in the Little Pizza Heaven all  by themselves.... pretty soon there will be someone talking to them (from another table). No need to eat alone in Riverside. Lake people are laid back and very friendly!

When I hear the words "small town" the first word that comes to mind is gossip. At least that is what I used to think until I moved to a small town and found out what their definition of being in every-body's business is.
I remember when our neighbor had his heart attack. He had been planning on taking down a dead tree and of course, all the neighbors knew about it.
