2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: 2012 Big Jumpstart Blog Challenge - The End! - 02/01/12 12:23 PM
I have to say that I did enjoy this contest!  After participating in the December contest and not this contest I think I am back into the swing of blogging more.  So today I am writing my 21st blog post and it is one of the "freebies" so I can write about anything that I want to.
So I would like to share a little trick I use on my posts when I write a series or enter a contest.  The secret to the following is one simple item I use and that is a simple tag. I use one tag … (4 comments)

2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: ActiveRain is Interaction | I Subscribe to Karen Rice - 01/31/12 01:28 PM

Today I would like to profile a member whose comments I enjoyed on others' posts that encouraged me to follow their blog.  This member is Karen Rice in Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania.
I can't remember when I first started interaction with Karen, was a few years ago when the platform was smaller.  I know that we were both just getting our feet wet on our outside blogs so I think it was through that group.  Karen has a brother who is in law enforcement here in Washington and I have a son who is so we had a connection there.
Karen … (6 comments)

2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: Back to Basics | ActiveRain University | Hitting the Mark with Links - 01/27/12 03:10 PM
I know there are several Rainer's that have had an issue with the 2012 Big Jumpstart Back to Basics Blog Challenge, but I am here to tell you that sometimes you need to get back to the basics and refresh your blogging plan.
I have been blogging here at ActiveRain since 2007 and have had some great success.  I can attribute my time at ActiveRain with several closed transactions, the opening of my own office and friendships across the miles!
This challenge has me attending two ActiveRain University classes.  I have NEVER attended one before.  Yesterday I attended the … (3 comments)

2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: Back to Basics | ActiveRain University | SEO Blog Training - 01/26/12 04:57 PM
But, I have become sloppy in my writing.  This challenge has me attending two ActiveRain University classes.  I have … (6 comments)

2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: New to ActiveRain | Not New to Real Estate - Welcome Jessica Yozamp - 01/25/12 01:30 PM

Yesterday Jessica Yozamp joined Active Rain and I personally wanted to welcome her.  Jessica is sort of a neighbor selling real estate in the State of Oregon just south of the area here in the Puget Sound.
Jessica may be new to ActiveRain but is not new to real estate, she has been in the industry for 10 years having started her career in property acquisition for a large tire retailer on the west coast.  She has worked for a title company and then processed escrows for 5 years.  Wow, Jessica and I also have a lot in common!  … (3 comments)

2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: 2012 Big Jumpstart Blog Challenge - Comment - Reciprocate and Respond - 01/23/12 06:53 PM
I am working on my 18 blog posts per the contest guidelines and realized that I also need to write 3 blog posts that are "freebies", as in I can choose my own topic.  So today I am writing about comments - comments we give and receive here on ActiveRain.
Back in 2007 I had never participated on a forum like AR.  I had participated in online forums that were more of a chat board type of format.  In fact I was a moderator on the largest military spouse community board in the country, so I wasn't new to commenting on … (1 comments)

2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: PSNS (Puget Sound Naval Shipyard) Memorial Plaza - 01/22/12 07:10 PM
After the September 11 attacks security for military installations around the country implemented new security measures, and bases in Kitsap County followed suit.  The Navy proceeded to purchase land in downtown Bremerton adjacent to the Bremerton Puget Sound Naval Shipyard entrance for a security buffer.  Instead of looking at some jersey barriers along the sidewalk the City of Bremerton had a vision that would lead to the creation of PSNS Memorial Plaza.  The park is a history lesson of the shipyard.  There are three sections, women workers of WWI near Burwell Street, in the middle World War II history and at … (3 comments)

2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: Bremerton Ice Arena / Bremerton Ice Center - I had no idea! - 01/21/12 06:06 PM

I have lived in Bremerton since September of 2006 so it only took me 5 years to figure out that Bremerton has an ice center.  I have never ice skated in my life so I guess I do have that excuse, however my husband loves the ice, he played hockey as a child in Minnesota.  He also spent a 3 years stationed in Alaska so was able to ice skate there.  This past Christmas Holiday he was home on leave and wanted to see some hockey, so we did.  While I was doing some research on hockey in the … (4 comments)

2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: 2012 Big Jumpstart Blog Challenge - SEO - Entry II - 01/19/12 07:30 PM
Like I stated in my first entry, I am NO SEO expert.  I learn here at ActiveRain just like everyone else.  So, here is my second tip on SEO - CONTENT, CONTENT, CONTENT!  Yeah, no simple magic pill, but just write good solid posts with your key words and proper links and you can build your SEO in an ethical way.  Remember these things about SEO
1.  No one can guarantee you #1 ranking on Google
2.  There are some things that are just silly - like submitting to a billion different sites in hopes it will help.
3.  PPC is … (0 comments)

2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: 2012 Big Jumpstart Blog Challenge - SEO - 01/18/12 06:17 PM
Now don't laugh, that I am writing something that concerns SEO, I am NO expert!  I have learned everything about SEO including what the initials mean (Search Engine Optimization) from everyone here at ActiveRain. But to complete some of the requirements for the challenge I need to write 2 posts about SEO related Suggestions that have helped me grow my business.
Here is one tip that I can pass on.  Links - Back-Links - I use my ActiveRain Blog to back-link to my Wordpress Blogs.  I also use back-links to link to inner parts of my blogs.
So if I am … (0 comments)

2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: 2012 Big Jumpstart Blog Challenge - How I Choose My Content - Non - Localism Posts - 01/16/12 05:49 PM
I consider any post that isn't about an area, an area of interest, a park, a community event, etc, non-Localism posts.  These would be the posts like market reports, real estate market data, how to purchase a home, what an escrow is, etc, you get the idea.
I write about 6 market reports a month for different cities in my market.  To find ideas for non Localism posts I read other blogs in the re.net world.  Coming up with ideas can be a bit more difficult.  Of course ActiveRain is a great source.  I also head over to HGTV, Money.CNN.com, RISmedia, … (2 comments)

2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: 2012 Big Jumpstart Blog Challenge - How I Choose My Content - Localism Posts - 01/15/12 11:52 PM
When I first started on ActiveRain the Localism section was very different than it is today.  You would never find a Localism post on the feature board back then.  Sometimes I felt like these posts were the red-headed step-children of the network.  You could get a "featured" Localism post but it came with no gold star - just some extra points but no kind of recognition.  I kept on writing because I knew Localism would bring business and it has.  I have written a ton of Localism posts.
I would often find my ideas from my local newspaper and their Facebook … (5 comments)

2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: When Will Home Prices Return to Pre-recession Levels? - 01/14/12 06:42 PM
REBLOGGED:  John, has some great perspective here.  I really liked how he gave insight on the lost equity most homeowners have suffered.  I know it will be several years before I will be able to sell my home unless I bring 30K to closing which I am not willing to do.  My husband is unwilling to short-sale because of his security clearance in the military.  We will be ok, but I am glad I didn't have other plans with the equity! My comments have been disabled so that you can have a conversation on John's post.

2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: Keyword Tools for Your Blog - 01/13/12 12:59 PM
REBLOGGED.  When I first arrived at ActiveRain, I think back in 2006 Brad was a huge influence as I started my blogs.  I have always followed Brad for his extremely easy to read and understand posts about blogging.  Brad has always shared to willingly with all of us here at ActiveRain so I am reblogging this featured post so that no one misses it.  Keywords are on my list of things to improve in 2012 so this was a very timely post.  I have bookmarked it for further reference since there is so much information and links for further reading. 2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: Weltanschauung | Editorial Independnce - 01/12/12 01:12 PM
Do you know what WELTANSCHAUUNG is, means? Have you seen the ActiveRain Weltanschauung?  Its the culture.  The philosophy.  ActiveRain has 10 bullet points explaining the philosophy of the community.  I have chosen item number 6 to write about today.

We believe that an open, free exchange of ideas is our primary reason for being. We are not captive to any point of view or agenda — other than to advance the interests of home buyers, sellers, and real estate professionals.ActiveRain prides itself on editorial independence.
This is probably my favorite part of ActiveRain, the free exchange of ideas.  I … (1 comments)

2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: Weltanschauung | Home Ownership Positive Force for Social Good - 01/11/12 03:18 AM
ActiveRain Weltanschauung?  It's the culture.  The philosophy.  Bullet number 3 of the ActiveRain Weltanschauung is to me a very emotional statement.  I do believe that home ownership can change cities, communities and neighborhoods.  I believe that home ownership can change lives.
Is home ownership for everyone, that is usually the debate that begins and some will say that not everyone should be a home owner.  I don't agree.  I think that anyone that wants to be a home owner should be able to.  I believe that this can be accomplished without jeopardizing our economy.
As a child I grew up poor, … (4 comments)

2012 big jumpstart blog challenge: Community Guidelines | Respect the Fair Housing Ethos - 01/10/12 12:41 AM
I am going to participate in the 2012 - BIG Jump-start Back to Basics Blog Challenge and today I have chosen another Community Guideline that goes along with respecting the real estate industry and that is to respect the Fair Housing Ethos.  I know that ActiveRain takes this very seriously, as they should.  To have a zero tolerance policy helps keep ActiveRain a community we can trust and enjoy.
If you ever see a violation all you have to do is report it and it will be delt with swiftly. Its states in the ActiveRain Community Guidelines that violations can … (1 comments)
