Why is WSDOT replacing the Manette Bridge? The Manette Bridge, which was built in 1930, is structurally deficient and functionally obsolete.
Here are some up-to-date facts concerning the new bridge and its design per the WSDOT website -
November 2009
The project team is currently finalizing design of the bridge. Advertises for bids in March 2010. Construction begins in summer 2010.
Roundabout on Manette side At the request of the City of Bremerton, the intersection on the Manette side of the new bridge will be configured as a roundabout.

5 fountains Granite Sculptures Naval History Museum Waterfront Views Restrooms Tables and Benches There are these five copper fountains that "burst" water into the air at different times and different intervals. I had no idea. I was just watching the water fall down the sides when all of a sudden "burst" and with this loud swishing water sound out came this large stream of water. I was so caught off guard that I screamed!! I was the only one in the park so that made me laugh!!

The Navy proceeded to purchase land in downtown Bremerton adjacent to the Bremerton Puget Sound Naval Shipyard entrance for a security buffer. Instead of looking at some jersey barriers along the sidewalk the City of Bremerton had a vision that would lead to the creation of PSNS Memorial Plaza.

The "Lone Sailor Project" is over halfway funded and the casting has begun thanks to the support of the local community. It has been reported that all those donations under $100 are what has given the fund-raising project the boost to be able to boast over $210,000 in donations on the way to the $300,000 goal. On Sunday I spent the afternoon downtown Bremerton to take in the activities of the 19th Annual Blackberry Festival. I parked a couple of blocks from the Bremerton Boardwalk and was glad I did because while on my walk to the Boardwalk I ran into the 4th Annual Blackberry Criterium. I really enjoyed watching the races and took this video to share with you.

BREMERTON NAVAL MUSEUM
The oldest building located on the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard site was relocated by the US Navy to Harborside Fountain Park to become the new home of the Naval Memorial Museum of the Pacific. The new location along with the opening of the museum was dedicated this past August.

On my travels on the Boardwalk I came across what I could see as the only "on the Boardwalk" eatery. There are those that overlook the Boardwalk but only one that is "on" the Boardwalk. Uptown Mike's, NY Hot Dogs with Attitude! First I thought to myself, "Is there a Mike?" and "Is Mike from New York?" So the nosey person that I am I walked into the small little building. Located near the public boat launch at Bremerton's Evergreen Park is the Bremerton WWI Memorial. The memorial is in memory of the local men who fought and died in WWI. There are 20 Names engraved on plates attached to the stone structure. This time of year the memorial is so gorgeous because of the flowers that are in full bloom. Stop when you are at the park and pay your respect to those that died for our freedom.

It's Market Time!!
Bremerton Farmers Market's is in full swing! The activity has been great even though the weather has not been the best. Every Thursday, through October 9th, at 4pm across from Evergreen Park in the Seaside Church's parking lot you can find farmers, unique food sellers and high quality arts.
While I was at the market there was a constant stream of shoppers having fun talking with the local vendors and ordering some BBQ from CJ's Evergreen General Store's stand.

This last Thursday and today Saturday, June 14th, were great for getting out and about in the Bremerton area. We finally received some sun and even though the temperatures were only in the mid 60's it was perfect!
I decided to visit some of my favorite places in Bremerton and shoot some video so you can see this gorgeous area. One of the reasons I chose to live in Bremerton was because of the water.
