 "The Big Short" does a great job of advancing the generally accepted story that toxic "sub-prime" mortgages were the main factor that led to the Great Recession of 2008.  
Although it is ostensibly just a story about a bunch of guys who were smart enough to make a fortune shorting the market, there is no question The Big Short is a morality play and blame is being squarely placed.  In this case the blame is being placed on Wall Street and the sale of subprime mortgages.  (As an aside, the Big Short does a really poor job of explaining the … (7 comments)

Don't get me wrong, I liked it.  I mean, it had comedy, profanity and a bathing beauty in a bubble bath explaining (sort of) the subprime mortgage market.  I like absurdity as much as the next person so what's not to like?  And, as a movie taken solely as a depiction of the mania, stupidity and arrogance that was rampant on Wall Street at the time, it's great!
However, if it's taken as a complete explanation of what really happened to cause that mania (the stupidity and arrogance just came naturally, I'm sure.) it falls far short.
