Living here in the Central Valley of California we are very close to a lot of cool things. The nearby foothills are a wealth of history and beautiful views. The foothills are home to many wineries. Yesterday I wrote about Calaveras Big Trees State Park and specifically the Discovery Tree. The park is home to some amazing trees, the Giant Sequoias. There are two types of redwood trees that are native to California, the Coast Redwoods along the central and northern coast and the giant Sequoia which grows in scattered locations along the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada. This past Sunday (9/18/11) I made the trip up out of the valley to Calaveras Big Trees State Park. From the Central Valley of California it's an easy two hour drive up Highway 4 to the park. Of course we stopped along the way in Arnold Ca, one of our favorite little foothill towns in California.

Today is World Nude Gardening Day
So I saw on facebook that it is World Nude Gardening Day today. This was brought to my attention by one of my favorite wineries here in Northern California. Twisted Oak Winery is located in Calaveras County in the foothills of Northern California.

I'm sure everybody in the world has heard of California's Napa Valley. I have been there myself a few times. The Napa Valley is beautiful and produces some world class wines. Of course being so famous does have its drawbacks too. Huge crowds is the first one that comes to mind. Just try to talk to the person pouring the wine when the tasting room is wall to wall people.
