I've often told friends that part of what makes me love real estate is the Los Angeles real estate market. There's nothing else like it. You never know what kind of house you're going to see, who's house you're going see, or what you're going to find in a house once you're there.

A few items of follow up on some recent postings from this blog....
- I posted a couple of weeks ago a story the LA Times ran about parking meters in LA, specifically what the city claims are it's rules regarding broken and/or dead meters. Sunday was yet another parking meter related piece in the Times, this time regarding the ushering in of the era of paid parking (and ticketing). Although she SEEMS not to know it yet based on her asking price, actress Mischa Barton is the latest Hollywood starlet poised to lose a boatload of money on her mansion - IF it sells. Purchased in 2005 for $6,400,000, the home is now on the market for $8,395,000. I'm quite certain that that number is the work of a business manager's mind, but seriously. Though it seems a bit soon, I guess that financially it makes complete sense that the mother and husband of the late Brittany Murphy have listed her Sunset Plaza house today. I don't know how anyone is going to get past the fact that she died in the master shower just 2 1/2 short months ago. Maybe it's just me, but it seems a bit much. I also think that they are clearly hoping for some of that celebrity glow to shine on the house, since it's more than a tad overpriced.

I had the privilege of seeing one of the most important modern homes in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Back in May, I blogged about Christina Aguilera's house in the Hollywood Hills, which is STILL on the market after 205 days. Well, it appears that she (or her Realtor, or business manager) finally got the memo that the economy's in the crapper and if it wasn't selling at $7.995 BEFORE the economic meltdown, it sure ain't now. They hacked a cool million off the asking price this week, bringing it down to $6.995. As you may recall, she and husband Jordan Bratman purchased the old Osbourne estate in Beverly Hills a couple of years ago.

Well, the AP is reporting that none other than Donald Trump has stepped in to rescue Ed McMahon from the jaws of foreclosure. According to the report, the Donald will be purchasing the home for an undisclosed amount (if I find out, believe me you'll see it right here) and allowing McMahon and his family to live there. Apparently Trump does not personally know McMahon, but acted out of compassion because "helping would be an honor."

I almost had a stroke when I opened this week's MLS Open House Guide. Right there adjacent to the inside cover is a full page, full color open letter from Hilton & Hyland's Alex Davis, pleading for agents all over the city to scour their rolodexes and PLEASE find a buyer for the home of Hollywood legend Ed McMahon before he gets foreclosed on.

Sad news from TV land today, as Estelle Getty, best known as Sophia Petrillo on The Golden Girls passed away after suffering Lewy Body Dementia for years. The world is a little less funny today, and there will be an empty seat at the kitchen table as we sit down for one last midnight piece of cheesecake.

I'm a few days late on this one (as I have been on ANY blogging), but I found it quite hilarious that the LA Times Hot Properties featured a piece on the recent sale of Avril Lavigne's house in Mulholland Estates that implied that the Spitter made out like a pink haired, bratty bandit. Ann Brenoff trumpets the deal as an all cash offer of $5.2million after only 36 days on market and that "tears of joy may have even run down her 23-year-old face, trademark thick black eyeliner and all; they certainly would have mine."

It's certainly no secret by now that I am a pop culture junkie, soaking up all the gooey pop culture goodness of Los Angeles. With that in mind, I do like to keep up with what sorts of purchases and sales (or unloadings, as the case has been lately) the rich and famous are making. Tuesday saw a brokers open at Christina Aguilera's old Hollywood Hills digs on Devlin Drive for $7.995m. For those who know me already, you know that this blog will be about a lot of things on the periphery of real estate. I came to real estate from the music business, and music, entertainment, and pop culture in general are my life.
