Here in Carova, NC the tides are an important part of our daily like. For most coastal communities knowing the tides is helpful for people boating or fishing, here it is important for driving. Since getting anywhere commercial from even the closest house requires a 2 mile drive on the beach itself, it can be very advantageous to know when low tied is so you can drive on the smooth hard packed sand rather than the dry sugar sand that Carova is well known for.

Corolla Wild Horses enjoying Swan Beach in Carova on the Outer Banks - 02/18/12 01:22 PM
I had just finished showing a house for sale at 1702 Ridge Rd. and look what we got to see when we came over the ramp. Mother & child enjoying a beautiful February afternoon going for a walk along the ocean. A few vehicles stopped on the beach to take pictures, but everyone stayed the 50 foot minimum distance.

Corolla Wild Horses are given room to GROW! - 02/13/12 02:15 PM
For many years the Corolla Wild Horses have been legally restricted to a heard size of no more than 60. For the past few years the Corolla Wild Horse Fund have been working very hard to get that number increased in order to protect the heard's genetic integrity. Two years ago they got North Carolina to name the Spanish Mustang as the state horse and earlier this month H.R. 306 the Corolla Wild Horse Protection Act was passed unanimously in the House.

Carova is an unincorporated community in Curritck County. It is a unique place in that the beaches and neighborhoods are in the northern most section of North Carolina's Outer Banks and are only accessible by boat, helicopter or 4-wheel drive vehicle due to the face that there are no paved roads north of Corolla.
To access the area by land people must air down their tires to as much as half and drive on the loose sandy beaches for miles before getting to any of the houses.

A hard copy of the Mid-Currituck Bridge Final Environmental Impact Statement, and associated technical reports, are available at the Corolla library. There are also 8 copies of the materials on CD for the public to check out. These will be available for Public Review through March 12.
